An interesting SSS hand. According to SHC I should raise with one raise to my JJ, QQ, KK. AK, or AA. Since the reraise would be 3x, or 3$ more than half my stack, I must go all in. It's another short stacker that raised me, so he might fold if he has TT, 99 or AQ from which he also might have raised from MP.

So he has more chance to have TT 99 AQ AK than AA KK or QQ. I can fold my JJ or call. I could have called - maybe got away from a flop with a Q K or A. - in this case I would have won after seeing the flop anyway.

Here's a hand that I could have thrown away after the short stack reraised me - I'm probably beat, but he just called from CO. He was probably trying to draw in opponents in hindsight. Short stacks will slowplay AA and KK occasionally I guess from late position - i might be inclined to also - but we see here that I would have folded AQ had he just raised to 1.25$

And here I go, just calling AA and face two opponents after the SB calls. I'm curious what Iker GT had that he folded, the pot was over 12$ and to call only cost about 1.25$

If I'd have reraised w the AA here I might have won a cheap pot - I decided to take a risk and win a big one. Probably not good short stack strategy.

I think I'm a bit aggressive, slowplaying big hands and occasionally calling reraises. Fairly solid after the flop, I've won a few hands against bluffs.

Being a short stack means if you check on the flop, other players think you've missed. If you're up against a particularly aggressive player then it might make sense to check/call or check/raise.

Another interesting SSS hand, the flop probably didn't hit so I bet out - reraised all in so I call.

Does Omaha and SSS works out well at the same time?

Thanks Gerv. On Omaha, I'm trying to get in cheap with good starting hands. If I don't have the nuts or nut draw on the flop I'm very cautious. I haven't read the articles here about Omaha yet, but it's on my list.

I started to call limpers with mid pairs, and occasionaly Ax suited in late position to some success adding to the SSS. I'm always cautious after the flop, but I've been caught on some bad beats, for example caught a set with 88, but the CO flopped the high straight and busted me.

I've also notice that when playing against short stacks that are after you - you can play more hands as MP hands. Efffectively the table is shorted.

I'm also using the SSS against other SSS players. Knowing that they either limp or raise to 4BB from late position with weaker hands more often, I can raise/steal with poorer hands. Sometimes I just call them with a decent hand and judge the flop. It's a bit more work, and I'm going to shelve it for a while and see what the difference is in my game.

p.s. I checked your blog too - nice start! I think you might be more aggressive than me, though you've played more than 6x the hands I have so far ;-)

Interesting , don't you feel sometimes confused playing 2 different gametypes at the same time?

I like your additiont to your SSS idea, especially Ax Suited on Button/SB&BB.
I might implement that one too if I clim up to NL25 soon.

Hi Gerv! I actually find it refreshing to play the other games. There's something to learn from all of them that can help some aspect of your NL Hold'em play. I play HORSE tournaments sometimes for the variety.

Hold em limit - learning the value of outs and odds, seeing how many times you hit your draws.

Omaha Hi/Lo - an exercise in restraint, good for learning how to recognize draws you or your opponents might have. The addition of the 8 or better means that you've got to play a lot of low hands with A in them. There's usually a lot of action by the time the river comes.

Razz - this game can be dangerous to your Hold'em game. I think going for the lowest hand is counterintuitive, and maybe helps your mental flexibility - but I think razz teaches you how to fold. I'm fairly good at razz - I think because I use the up cards to scare and bluff my opponents in position. Yeh, position is important here.

Stud 7 - this game teaches you restraint also - I mean there's 6 betting rounds. I think it also teaches me how to let go of mediocre hands.

Stud 8 or better - I have no idea! This game is the hardest for me - I'll play low suited or straight cards - but very cautiously.

Btw, here's a graph of my first 2200 hands or so with SSS. I hit a small lull after a couple of bad beats on hands I probably shouldn't have been playing, but the trendline looks rather promising!

This was one of my favourite hands. Since there's not a lot of drawing hands to play with SSS it's nice when something like this happens. I'm thinking if i push on the flop he might fold - but a smaller bet might induce a reraise.

Played 493 hands in 2.2 hours - though sometimes only had 3 or fewer tables open. I made sure to leave tables when up by enough, but was tempted into a few limped pots which lost some blinds - they were easy folds. A couple of sets hit when I limped with 22 or 44 and I played the sets aggressively.

Started using colour codes on players that were LAG, LPA, TAG, and Sharks. There aren't really many tight passive players around - at least enough to tell after so few hands.

This allowed me to do some steals on the flop e.g. when AKo didn't hit and I had a LAG player that called my initial 1$ preflop behind me. Or I might think better of pushing to LAGs and LPA's depending on the texture of the flop and whether I was the raiser. This hand shows some more restraint with an overpair - was it the right play?

esssarve hasn't played for 8 hands I've been at the table, so I peg him tentatively as TAG (again, I don't see many TPA players) and maybe calling with a decent AJ even AQ or a mid low pair.

The flop is dry, I bet low for value. I didn't think his mini raise meant that he had hit a set and thought draws were unlikely. Knowing I'm a short stacker, he should have expected me to either reraise if I'm ahead or fold. Maybe he thinks he's ahead with pockets or taking a chance with AQ or even A9.

Not too many fish at 4-6am EST, mostly loose and tight aggressives that did well earlier on lower levels, but not so many pots being played at that. Most of the loose action is on $10NL or $50 which seem really active.

I made a few moves with AK on the flop against aggressive players - even reraising all in with two overcards.. at the same time I folded KQo on 22 from the button.

I caught myself calling small raises with hands like TT on the SB again - not good. Mostly I'm winning blinds and called down pots occasionally restealing from the LAGs.

Going to play a much more disciplined style and not simply call raises with mid pairs - even if it is the LAG trying to steal again...

Just lost with the nut flush draw and two overcards to 55 - i simply called a bet on the flop for pot odds and by the turn the pot was too big - i pushed and lost.
