Have decided to have an extended go at the $1.50 NL Turbo 18 man SnGs on PokerStars. I have started this blog to record my results, post hands and generally chat about things Omaha8.

My results from yesterday are:

10 Sngs
$15 Outlay
ITM = 3 (30%) 1st,1st,1st
Collect = $28.56
Profit = + $13.56
ROI = + 90.40%

I was quite pleased with the way I played. In 2 of the wins I was at a 3-1 chip deficit. I also had a 5th, 6th and 7th (top 4 pay).

Good luck Lazza!

Omaha8 is a game that I've never played so will be following this :)

After today's results Gary, I wish I'd never played either. ;(

10 SnGs
$15 Outlay
ITM = 2 (20%) 2nd,4th
Collect = $9.49
Loss = -$5.51
ROI = -36.73%

Started well with both cashes in first 4 games, but then the rot set in. 6 Full Houses ( 5 beaten ), monster draws never hitting, low flops when you play high cards and high flops when you play low. Oh well, I suppose it's Mr. Variance rearing his ugly head. Hopefully he'll be more generous to me tomorrow.

Hey Lazza

yeah variance is an inevitable part of the game and sometimes the downswings seem to never end. Nevertheless keep up the grind and welcome to our blogging section

Regards,
Luke

An absolutely atrocious day yesterday. Played 2 sessions. In 1st session played 14 games, 0 ITM, 4 Final tables. Then as I was busto I deposited and started 2nd session. Instant change 12 Games, 6 ITM, 11 final tables. In fact I went 2,2,9,8,5,4,1,12,2,5,6,4. Methinks something smells on the Isle of Man.

First Session
14 SnGs
$21 Outlay
ITM = 0 (0%)
Collect = $0
Loss = -$21.00
ROI = -100.00%

2nd Session
12 SnGs
$18 Outlay
ITM = 6 (50%)
Collect = $35.62
Win = +$17.62
ROI = +97.88%

Total for day
26 SnGs
$39 Outlay
ITM = 6 (23.07%) 2,2,4,1,2,4
Collect = $35.62
Loss = -$3.38
ROI = -8.66%

OVERALL
46 SnGs
$69 Outlay
ITM = 11 (23.91%) 4*1st, 4*2nd, 3*4th
Collect = $73.67
Profit = $4.67
ROI = +6.76%

I was happy about the way I fought back. I just kept blaming Mr. Variance and that kept Mr. Tilt away. Considering I went 20 games without ITM ( the first 14 yesterday and the last 6 on the day before), the real positive for me was I didn't get angry. I kept my composure and started grinding back.

Interesting how things changed as soon as I deposited. Played the same hands, the same style and the same opponents.

Another ordinary day. I probably contributed to it myself. Found myself tightening right up and not playing enough hands. Will try to be more proactive.

Total for day
20 SnGs
$30 Outlay
ITM = 2 (10.00%) 2,3
Collect = $11,87
Loss = $18.13
ROI = -60,43%

OVERALL
66 SnGs
$99 Outlay
ITM = 13 (19.69%) 4*1st, 5*2nd, 1*3rd, 3*4th
Collect = $85.54
Loss = $13.46
ROI = -13.59%

Yet another ordinary day. All my big hands beaten. Flop straights, get rivered by a full house or flush. turn flushes, get rivered. Can't buy a river myself. Worst one was shoving AAxx and getting called by K987, turn 9 river 9.

Going to have a break for a couple of days to see if I can shake this runbad

Total for day
12 SnGs
$18 Outlay
ITM = 1 (8.33%) 4
Collect = $2.37
Loss = $15.63
ROI = -86.83%

OVERALL
78 SnGs
$117 Outlay
ITM = 14 (17.94%) 4*1st, 5*2nd, 1*3rd, 4*4th
Collect = $87.91
Loss = $29.09
ROI = -24.86%

have you tried 9man KO's?.. they're super soft

Yes. I think that will be my next move. I played some a couple of weeks ago and they were pretty soft.

Thanks for the suggestion. :f_biggrin:

As per badgerer's suggestion, I'm going to try the 9 man KO's on PokerStars.
Initially I will be playing a mix of $1.50 turbo and non turbo KO's. Only played a small session today but I went OK.

Turbos
4 SnGs
$6 Outlay
ITM = 2 (50.00%) 2,1
Bounties = 8
Collect = $9.94
Profit = $3.94
ROI = +65.66%

Non Turbos
3 SnGs
$4.50 Outlay
ITM = 1 (33.33%) 1
Bounties = 5
Collect = $6.22
Profit = $1.72
ROI = +38.22%

Total for day (Turbos and Non Turbos)
7 SnGs
$10.50 Outlay
ITM = 3 (42.85%) 2*1, 1*2
Bounties = 13
Collect = $16.16
Profit = $5.66
ROI = +53.90%

Not a bad start at all.

Played really poorly at the start, but gradually improved. I think I have figured out the slips in my game and expect better next session.

I have decided not to segregate turbos and non turbos as they have exactly the same prize structure with the only difference being the turbos finishing quickly. I will however keep a personal eye on the results to see if I perform better in one or the other.

TODAY
20 SnGs
$30.00 Outlay
ITM = 7 (35.00%) 2*1, 3*2,2*3
Bounties = 16
Collect = $25.70
Loss = $4.30
ROI = -14.33%

OVERALL TOTAL
27 SnGs
$40.50 Outlay
ITM = 10 (37.03%) 4*1, 4*2, 2*3
Bounties = 29
Collect = $41,86
Profit = $0.36
ROI = +0.88%

i like the idea of this blog but why not post some intesting hands? otherwise you're just sharing your results which, and i mean no offense, is a bit boring to read.

it would probably help you to improve your game dont you think?

do you think your mindset is a bit too much result orientated at the moment? thinking like this can be very harmful to your game. you would benefit more from focusing on your decision making i think.

good luck at the tables.

After 6 months of not being motivated to grind, I think I may have my passion back. Omaha8 is a game I love to play but eventually I had to take a step back and admit to myself that I needed more work on my game.

So I have studied, read, watched vids etc and now I believe I am ready to have a crack at it again.

The Plan

Playing $1.50 6 and 9 man NLO8 SNGs on PokerStars (Turbo and non Turbo, KOs and non KOs)

Playing $1.20 and $2.40 6 man FLO8 and PLO8 on Titan with some $5.50 and $11 occasionally thrown in due to low traffic.

Playing occasional micro CGs on Titan as players are very, very bad.

miniFTOPS Schedule

Event 6: $22 NLO8 6 Max SuperStack (20k Gtd)
Event 25: $26 PLO8 KO SuperStack (20k Gtd)
Event 34: $22 Stud8 DeepStack (10k Gtd)
Event 36: $22 FLO8 DeepStack (15k Gtd)

I will also be trying to satellite into:

Event 31: $55 10 Game SuperStack Multi Entry (40k Gtd)
Main Event : $75 Nl Holdem SuperStack Re-entry (750k Gtd)

I have already been running for a week, so my current results stand as:

Spoiler

Titan
ABI $2.43
SnGs 99
Outlay $241.00
Collect $242.40
P / L + $1.40
Rake Paid $31.00
ITM 42 (22*1, 20 *2)
ITM% 42.42%
ROI + 0.58%

PokerStars
ABI $1.50
SnGs 2
Outlay $3.00
Collect $5.95 (inc. 4 bounties)
P / L + $2.95
Rake Paid .30c
ITM 1 (1*1)
ITM% 50,00%
ROI +98.33%

I have been playing on Titan for around a week and PokerStars from today.

At the low limits ($1.20 and $2.40), the rake is 20% which makes it hard to make a significant profit. I expect to win more when I graduate full time to the $5.50 and $11's, where the rake is only 10%.

I wonder what you are surprised about. Unless I do not see something here, that is a pretty standard shove, regardless of the fact he has an ace blocked. Actually, I would think that it is better to shove here with triple A than raise because of the weakness you and some other dude show by limping in.

What I am more inclined to know is how you managed to limp in with such a rag and then stack off. Probably the reason why I blame people for being ballsy fish for stacking off with complete squadouche.

I was playing the player rather than the cards (Villain had got out of jail on a couple of previous shoves by getting runner runner and had shown down ordinary starters). I must admit limp was misclick (Was trying to fold but trackball on laptop jammed). No one in there right mind would limp that hand UTG. But once he shoved I was certain other limper would fold and that my hand would stand up well against his very wide range.

Really appreciate your opinion and insight and recognising what on the surface looks like an ordinary play.

No matter the reason I think this is too wide of a call. Had you got 23 instead of 34 I might understand where it is coming from, but I perceive this hand to be in the bottom 50% of the PLO8 range and this is not worth gambling on.

Also, I'd rather you post some interesting spots with ace-x's with 3/4 on the side. (Mis)playing those hands is crucial in this game and I know I am a lot at fault when I do lose with them. Might spark some interesting debate.

Thanks again man. If you hadn't pointed it out I would not have realised how badly off I actually was. Against his perceived 70% range I was a 46-54 dog, and against his actual hand I was a whopping 39-61 which I found quite surprising as most times he will showdown unimproved Aces and single pairs rarely hold up at sd.

I'm still on a learning curve. ?(
