Preflop: Hero is BB with 9 5

Flop: ($1.10) 2 J 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.75, Hero calls $0.75

Turn: ($2.60) J (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks

River: ($2.60) 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.50, UTG calls $1.50

Pre: Odds are good so I called. If it was 3x open I fold.

Flop: Std call with FD

River: Is c/c here better or b/f? I was trying to get some light calls from A high or worse pairs that might put me on a missed FD. Those hands don't bet the river.

Hey T,

Fold preflop. You are facing an UTG range and are OOP. Call is very bad here. You won't have a profitable situation unless you have a tremendous skill advantage over your opponent.

Can't we assume he has a looser utg range if he min raises?

The biggest problem is being OOP and not making correct decisions postflop. The hand doesn't end preflop so you have to ensure you realise that equity that you have all the time. If you are confident enough in your skill to call this, then I cannot convince you otherwise. I should not be able to estimate your skill better than yourself since I have less information. I believe nobody grinding NL25 can make this call profitably.

When you think otherwise, you do so because you have a different image on your abilities. I think you will lose the maximum when you hit a strong but second best hand and win the minimum when you hit a strong hand and your opponent has a decent hand himself.

As played, you bet river against a range of pairs and air, out of which you expect to get called by some air since you beat almost no pairs. That will also be -EV since you don't get value against his calling range, even if you include some A highs.
