Thank you, sir! I think as well a challenge is a great thing. Also because I was really lost the last months, was just massgrinding and thought my upswings were a mere result of great play. I don't think so anymore and there are so many flaws still in my game and my mindset. Hard work pays off, and that's what I should really hammer into my brain until it sticks.

Champions Stand up One More Time Than the Rest Part 1

Beliefs SnS should adopt:

1) Champions stand up one more time than the rest
2) I can achieve whatever I want!
3) Life is too short to listen to others (who have no idea what they talk about)

The 5 Steps to simple poker logic:

1) General Hypothesis / Assumption what people do these days (simple
observations)
2) Smart Guessing (already based on statistics/HUD)
- without having a big sample size, you can still make some sort of
assumption. E.g., a red 3bets 50% of his hands.
3) Statistics
- you have a decent sample on your opponent which says already sth you
can infer to his play.
4) Empirical Evidence / Known Holecards / 100% Proof how he plays his hands
5) Check -> Evaluate -> Think
- Did I make the correct play based on my assumptions?
- How I am going to adjust to his play (partly based on results of the hand)

I guess I watched the video for the 4th time now. Plan is to implement the beliefs and the logical framework to every decision I make.

Yes. I find it really interesting so far. He covers a lot of topics and spots in which players frequently simply lose a lot of money and he also covers it in a simple way that everybody can easily understand it. If you should purchase it or not ofc depends then on your current skill level. Thanks and I also wish you to succeed a lot!

Stealing from the SB - Part 1

I learned that you can / have to steal very very wide from the SB against certain opponents. Versus unknowns you should also openraise from the SB with any two cards. Otherwise you can't figure out their tendencies preflop, and on the flop when you cbet.

I made a ~15 min video on NL10 where I try to focus a lot on stealing the blinds. I wasn't sure with some spots.

Additionally I am currently reading "Learned Optimism" by Seligman, because I often have the problem of attributing bad events wrong. For example, when I have a losing session, I infer it very often to myself whereas it could have been just bad luck. Or a girl rejects me and I think its my fault whereas she just could have had a bad day or sth. So I want to be much more optimistic than I'm right now. With Poker it would help me a lot as well. But people should be critic with such things. When you get too optimistic then you may distort your own thought process by attributing all the bad stuff to external causes and all the good stuff that happens to you to your own ability (Poker is not like that). ♦

Hey there! I just finished two short sessions (45 min. & ~25 min). I prepared myself for the session by setting sessiongoals and watching a live coaching for a few minutes to get motivated.

I also tried to further apply the learned material. I really tried to take very seemingly profitable steal spot. I recognized that I still sometimes lose the profit postflop again by cbet flop / turn / river on scarecards but without any plan about opponents' tendencies or other limit related stuff.

Further, I had the feeling that I fold way too much on 3bets (I tried to avoid marginal spots) but there were definitely 1-2 very aggressive regs on each table that kept 3betting mit frequently. I adapted by becoming tighter (though still folding to 3bets). Plan was to 4bet Kxs, Axs, and flat my strong hands to attack their weak 3betting ranges. Didn't work out, maybe just variance that I always had a hand I did not want to 3bet with / I excuse due to uncertainty?

Was going out yesterday with people I like, but though it felt strange. After I quit my relationship (which ended in total peace and full respect to her) something weird's happening. It feels like a big part of me just faded away and I feel pretty much alone in this world. We were in the city and I suddenly got very sentimental and left the crew to go home, with some tears in my eyes. I just wished to have a girl as pretty as her by my side...

Right now I'm listening a bit to Bob Marley "every little thing gonna be alright" - Life goes on. Wanted to make some music (drunk talk yesterday) with a friend today, but I have to finish reading Learned Optimism. Later on I will have my 4th coaching with Schnitzelfisch. After it I should continue working on the course.

I cannot just let those setbacks influence my mind and life so bad, that I am still sitting here not being productive yet, at all!!! I will work my ass off to go for what I want! Cu later, guys.

Just had my weekly PPC with Kavalor. I played 3-4 tables for about 105 minutes. I did not have the feeling I played so well. Problem was I think I estimated ranges way too optimistic in some spots (was valuetowning myself frequently). Further, I have watched Part 2 from Stealing from the SB. Gordon says we can sometimes against very weak players just minopen or even complete with very marginal hands like 45s or 44, will def. try that in the future.

Opponent seems very tight on the first hands. I think the bet for itself is fine though, he can have AJ/AT easily in his range. But I should have probably made it smaller since he can just snap us with AK he could have played this way. Better to c/f here?

I am mainly betting the turn to a) against a bunch of straightdraws and worse Qx, and b) to build the pot if we hit a T, Q, or a - what do you think of the turnplay?

I hat this flaw in my head that he has a flushdraw very often I should better protect against on the turn. On the river I obvsly would have taken the free showdown. Thats why I push the turn here, which is so stupid cuz nobody plays draws like that.. cbh turn for potcontrol would have been better and then re-evaluating the river.

Overall the day went pretty grose. I need to understand better how ranges are constructed, and how large is the proportion of madehands equal to the proportion of draws on different board structures... Also I recognized I isolate a bit too lose against fish. Also I give a damn on my table image. Tomorrow I will hand in the second homework of the course. I also gonna start up with Jared Tendler and also attack some negative distorting beliefs regarding different things with the ABCDE-Technique from Seligman.

Today I had a very good coaching session with Primoz. I improve slightly in many areas and we talked a bit about my future. I am seriously thinking about taking a Uni break for a year so I can fully concentrate on Poker. We also made up a challenge with two other guys participating. Everybody is going to run several kilometers every day. The one with the longest distance wins. I'm excited about it since its already 1-2 Weeks ago that I sported the last time.

Beliefs SnS should adopt

1) Stop excusing
- I must take on full responsibility for all actions I take
- Who I am is, at least for a huge part, result of what I did in the past
- I have to accept reality as it is: I did not lose 3/4 of my BR due to circumstances or other people. I lost it because I behaved just stupidly. There is no way but to change myself in order to change things for the future.
- I must escape from any delusions from reality

2) Stop "being right
- Question what I already know: my current knowledge can't ever be the ultimate reality
- When I am not where I want to be, I better take advice and use it (of course then from the right people)
- When I hear something new, I better try it out because I am not where I want to be -> DO it and question it later!

3) Spend time with the right people
- Look at the 5 people you spend most time with and write them down
- I am the average of these 5 people
- Spend time with people who DON'T excuse and TAKE ON responsibility (because that's what I want to do and become)

Let's be brutally honest with myself:

I am 24. I am studying since two years. I started to play Poker in 2011. I was usually playing about 6 hours per day, on average. I was investing in content about 15-30 min per day, on average. It took me 1,5 years for NL25, and another 1-2 months to reach NL50. Theory : Playing ratio was the same.

I lost a huge part of my BR because I wasn't honest with myself.
I thought I could just keep on grinding, cause "it's easy".
I could not insight that what I did was autopiloting thousands of hands whilst slowly losing $100 after the other.
I did not see that I am not something I might consider a very good poker player.
I did not see that huge mental flaws I had / still have.
I was totally result-oriented.
I just kept on grinding when I had a bad day chasing Buy-In's until 6 in the morning, because I just could not accept bad results. My ego would be destroyed after a losingday.

My goals were only monetary. So, when I got NL50 and experienced the biggest winning day (~€350) I was feeling like the biggest baller of all times. I immediately bought an expensive rum for a party and started to tell people about my "great achievements". Now they are just dust blown away by the wind.

Was it all a dream?
For that time, yes. It wasn't a far-stretched and long-term oriented achievement. I ran totally crazy and it seems sooo easy for me to beat the limits. When I look back, I can just agitate my head, because I made a lot of bad decisions. But I CAN achieve whatever I want! No reason to worry about that now since I have big plans for the summer. It's about HARD WORK that pays off. Not about bullshitting oneself by upswing-delusions.

Where should I go from here?

I need to correct the flaws I have written down above.
- Be as honest as possible with myself: Be far more aware of BS in my thought processes and my reasoning.
- Get rid of results-orientedness: Process Model would probably help a lot because the evaluation part gives a rough estimate on how I perform.
--> Go for Quality!
- autopiloting: Tackle it with strict playing times! Use http://www.mindfulnessdc.org/ for this.
- chasing: STOP playing when time is over. Close the software immediately, and do something else (there are always other essential things to do)

Yes, Baby! My weekly goal is 2/5 fulfilled. Pretty late I went to the supermarket to get some nice food. The store almost closed, but I did not look at the time. There was this very cute, tall, blonde dutch girl walking to the checkout with a bottle of whine. She was so fast, that I could not talk to her right away but had to put down my basket and follow her outside. I talked to her in the same way as to the girl two days ago ("Hey, I just saw you inside the supermarket. I love your hair, and I just wanted to come over and say hi. ). She liked it a lot, and did not mention her boyfriend until the conversation was almost over and I was showing her, that I want to hook up with her. But she gave me her number, and I will probably meet her later in the city center. If she does not want, I will just switch to one of her (probably also hot, dutch) female friends.

+ My redline is slightly up/breakeven

- I lost about 9 BI's on NL25 (guess I should better move down to NL10 now -.-)
- I tilted in the beginning and then I ran pretty bad after it(~4 Stacks under EV), a few suckouts and thats it for today.

I am gonna relax on NL10 now. Got about 22 BIs for NL25 left, think its too Hollywood to play on this limit now...

Plans for tomorrow:

Get my leaks fixed! To the level of my unconscious competence, some really bad habits are still implemented. I do such a bullshit sometimes that I cant believe it, actually. I think its all a mental thing with me. I was autopiloting like shit today. I crammed and then I became angry when I ran into setups I could have easily avoided by folding my Toppair weak kicker. As mentioned I read the chapter about tilt. I will work with that and see how that goes. Maybe I will also do the next Part of the series. Good night guys!

wooooooooh, Just went running again. For some of you it may not be fast, but me its a new record after a while. Ran 5.57km in ~32min. For my conditions (I have asthma), I was about to die, but then Will Smith came into my head and told me "If we both get on the treadmill, YOU either gonna go off first, or I gonna DIE" - so I kept on running until the end, ready to die. ♦

I am shortly before going out again after the last night was pretty much a mess ♦ My pickup game is even worse than my poker and I gonna work on that skill, definitely.

Mental Game

I was grinding hard today, played about 3k Hands, a lot of zoom, and at some points I started to go in rage mode where I started to get very pissy by getting sucked out and set-up etc. I screamed at my opponents and that was the beginning of today's mental game work.

After I read the Tilt Chapter (5), I kinda combined a task of this and also made a mental hand history for my problem(s).

• Emotion accumulated over the last days, since I am running 6 stacks under EV (which is not much, but I am almost NL10 again, so its really annoying)
• I hate to lose right now. It upsets me and brings me away from my A-Game
• I did not see that variance is only 50% or so of the momentary influence on the results. Literally I spewed away 4 stacks or so. It's retarded!

However, I was working on these points today, then in the end played another session, 4 tables, for almost 2 hours. I know it's bad to play that long, but it wasn't that hard since I was not tableselecting and played almost only regs, trying to apply the stealing from SB and BU. It's crazy how much this influences one's winrate. YOu can see it in the graph below:

Other:

I have watched the next video from DY6MW. Even there, most regs just make stupid mistakes by autofolding the Button for at least 50% of the time. I was stealing successfully with 90% open from BU AND SB. ♦ Only thing was I did not adapt and just kept stealing when regs started 3betting me. Though it was still working well because they are only doing it when they kind of have a hand (which is not thaaat often).

Tomorrow, I will do the homework for the BU steal video, and I will also go through some stupid, and not so stupid hands. It's time for some handanalysis and range estimation.

I am going through a really weird time.... I never hat this, but since yesterday, I started screaming at my opponents when I make a bad play and lose the hand. Following hands are great examples of my bad condition. I could beat NL25... I already did it 3 months ago.. but now.... nothing changed actually, but my mindset. I don't know what to do against that BS..

Opponent has 57% ft3bet. So I 3bet ATo for value here. I flop second pair and decide to check call the flop. Turn blanks and he bets 3/4 pot. His Flop - River AF was infinite, respectively. He can easily be bluffing here, so I call a second time. River comes amazing, and I instantly c/f screaming "CMOON....".

Again, such a retardness... either I quit Poker, or I get this huge issue solved :/

For the HW regarding BTN Steal.. I just want to sleep now.

I deleted my last post, because I wanted to not do anything for Poker today. Well I changed my mind and it became clear to me that at this stage it is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY to keep on PUSHING! What I mean by that is, that this day would be a waste of time for my poker career.

I applied for Raskolnikov's Longterm coaching, and I HOPE SO BAD that my application will hold. Poker is not only some game for me, it is my LIFE atm.

Also, after running the last 3 days, I doubled the km today and made 10.64km out of 5.60km. My willpower led me to do this, there's no other explanation. I have asthma since I was 5 years old and I always sucked bad at running. I hated playing soccer, and other endurance related sports.

However, Let's start with Poker!

Mental Game

I continued to read the Tilt Chapter of Tendler today. I then had some awesome epiphanies!!! Last times I played I cared so bad about results and losing money against fish etc, that my mind went that blank to let me forget the essence of variance:

• Everything you invest in a certain hand, has a specific probability of keeping / losing it later on. This is the EV. So, if you go preflop AI with AK, and you lose a flip against QQ, the money you lost, isnt really lost, because you will eventually get it back in a similar situation. However, if a player makes a play with a HUGE profitability, but even though loses the hand, he will get the money back later on like 2-5 times. I go AI on the Flop with my overpair, Villain shows a flushdraw, he hits on the river. He went AI with less than 30% Equity, whcih means, we will eventually get the money back, at least twice.

I need to implement this epiphany to the level of my unconscious competence in order to make it work even in times when I'm on tilt (not saying its not better to quit when you start tilting ♦ )

Today the weather was so damn good that I decided pretty spontaneously to go to a huge lake in Groningen. It was a great time, we played soccer, had BBQ, and were swimming. I also met some really cool people. I also had the summary of chapter 5 (Tendler) with me, trying to study it a bit more. I could not really relax cause I was so busy in my head thinking at Poker and how to continue the best.. However, my mind feels to become in a very good shape now. Today I only had one blackout in which I spewed off 100bb by pushing AQ BB vs CO preflop AI (saw him having 3bet 2/3 times in the CO, on 30 hands or so. No big sample, and he obvsly showed up with AA ♦ ) = lesson learned. After all the evening went great.

Cbetting

Which factors do we have to consider when cbetting?

• Villain
  - does he call a lot / fold a lot on cbets?
  - high VP$IP -> general assumption that he is rather the callingstation type than the nitty player.
  - does Villain fold a lot to cbets, bet smaller, does he call a lot, bet bigger
• The Board + Our Opponent's Range
  - is it very dry / very wet?
  - the more dry, the smaller we can cbet
  - the more drawy, the more we should bet
• Own cards (weak hand / strong hand)
  - the stronger our hand, the bigger we should bet
  - the weaker our hand, the smaller we should bet

All these points are standing in isolation for themselves. Of course we have to deviate from them, and connect for instance our Own Cards with our opponent's tendencies, AND the board structure to choose the best betsizing (or just checkfold instead of cbetting).

I also learned again, that BALANCING is BULLSHIT. Nobody really cares how you play. Further, you automatically balance when you adjust to your opponent's play.

Bet as big as your opponents calls this amount. Iso KK for 5bb instead of 4bb against weaker players. Also cbet BIG in 3bet pots with your overpair (since most players will call on 883r anyways with their 99 at least one bet.

Weekly Review

This week turned out be a mixture of being crazy, annoying, mindfucking, mindful, resurrection, and last but not least, GROWTH. I learned a lot about myself in some areas. I am trying to improve daily. Often it was so hard, that it HURT. I went through some ridiculous emotional swings, I tilted, I ran hard under EV, then I came back, played normal, got punched in my face again, stood up, tilted, read, read, read, applied concepts, and eventually went towards solution.

This is a great feeling!!!

However, the facts say that I was NOT reviewing my sessions. I mainly tried to work on my mindset. This is gonna change for the following week.

• I will talk with some players and will try to figure out how to analyze, and get the highest learning effect out of my sessions.
• Further, I will keep on working on my mindset, and set up a good warmup / cooldown strategy.
• I will work my ass through the end of chapter 5 Mental Game of Poker, and start reading Chapter 6.
• Eat enough before playing.

New Goals, new motivation! Lets take off into the second week!

Wow, what an awful start into Week #2.

Today I woke up at 10, had some breakfast, "just wanted to grind some hands on zoom", continued til 2:30, told myself, "ok! at 3 you are going to the city center and care about your duties (had to get a new garbage card)" - guess what. I kept on playing until 5:15 pm, at 6 was my coaching with Schnitzelfisch. I went to the supermarket get some food, and came back home on time.

Thus, I played 5 hours zoom, getting a SHIT out of that, and obviously dropped some buy-in's.

So I had my coaching. Before I was pretty dissappointed and angry on myself. Such a BS. However, we talked about connecting with other people. I always had the problem that I hardly could establish good relationships. As we talked about solutions and he came up with asking more open-ended questions AND asking more questions in general (whilst telling almost nothing about onself, only when asked), I recognized that I was always doing the extreme opposite. When I talked with others, I always had to tell a shitload about myself, and therefore did not get to know the other person (whereas he/she was probably a bit annoyed by my stories or sth ♦ ). I will go out tonight, trying to apply this new concept.

Mental Game

Today I felt actually in a good shape. I spew less than yesterday. Though, I was autopiloting a lot (who wonders when I had almost no breaks in between). But here, I also learned an important lesson!

Winning money, in short-term, is NOT a characteristic of a winner.

What do I mean by that?

Well, as many people relate good outcomes with their own skill, and bad outcomes with external factors, such as variance, it is very easy to delude oneself. The right way to approach poker is not by looking at your graph every day and then evaluating, regarding on results, if the session was played well.
Tendler describes it pretty good in the section of Chapter 5 "Hate-Losing TilT":
There are other gains besides winning money playing poker.

• Being better than your opponents
• Ability to pay the bills
• Achievement and accomplishment of other poker goals
• Respect from people who tink you're wrong for even playing poker
• Confidence in your game
• Ability to move up in stakes (ok, this is rather money-related..)
• Others' opinions of your game
• The time, energy, and work you put in the game
• A better chance of retiring early.

I put the (for now) important things in bold. I need to apply these things to my own attitude. The reason why I was massgrinding today (and many other days in the past) was that I did not realize the unworthyness of the money won in short-term.

Great, buddy, you will lose it all eventually when you are not f****ing start working on your game and start valueing non-monetary related poker goals... I'm gonna fix this issue, since it is a major thing that costs me a lot of time and money.

Good news are, I indeed posted 4 hands the last 2 days, and if you read this, mbml, great appreciation for your work!!!

Bad news again, after I had the coaching, I was playing 2 sessions a 60 minutes. I did not tableselect. I am usually never doing it, since my goal is not to crush the fish, but to crush everybody. That may sound dumb, but I want to gain an edge over everybody. Well, the first session wasn't that good, I lost a lot of non-SD winnings and a retarded reg from Germany next to me 3bet around 40% of his hands against me. Better should leave such annoying tables prospectively since they cost a lot of mental energy and also money.

Second session went better, I got 3 stacks in ~100 hands, but eventually dropped the hafl again due to non-sd losses. Have to figure that out tomorrow in detail.

It's still a rollercoaster adventure right now. But I will work hard this month to reduce these inconsistencies and make my game become better than ever.
