I decide to call, because we're both deeper than 100 BB. Villain is a tight player, so I think I can narrow down his range to AAWx or A2xx ss or ds.
Now I hit the flop quite well and I think that I am so far ahead that I can play a very passive c/c line to get him to fire at least a second barrel. His hi hand is probably so weak that any action on my side would make him instafold.
Now the turn is quite dangerous for me, he could quite likely be on a wheel draw, given his range, but still I think his made hand so far is worse than mine, so I decide to c/r.
Now the river is about one of the worst cards for me to come, he could have made his wheel, so I simply decide to check, because he probably only calls me with A5xx and/or runnerrunner flush.

Should I have played more agressively on the flop to avoid getting in exactly this situation or is my passive play there o.k.?

The main problem with check/calling the flop and going for a checkraise on the turn is that a lot of players will check back the turn with their non nut low draws that do have decent ish equity against you here.

My main worry is that we get to the river with not much put in to the pot. So to go for a checkraise on the turn I would have to be certain that villain barrels the turn a lot.

If you checkraise the flop a lot of players don't have the ability to fold A2 here, they would much rather chase a low so it's not that big a thing to play the hand hard and fast. Nobody is going to fold hands like AT2 on boards like this or even any A2 or A3 with a gutshot straight and backdoor flush draw. There are too many cards that give them a draw on the turn.

The exception to that rule would be if I had a strong 2 way hand like AKK3. In this case I would slow play since I want my opponent to hit his low. A lot of my money now is going to be made by quartering the other guy (or even scooping!) rather than charging him for the draw.
