AQ hitting top pair on flop & getting raised

I dont have the hand history for some reason so Im sorry the details are a bit vague.
1st hand at a new table in a 3 table SnG

250/500
Hero UTG+1 AQ (20,000)
MP (13,000)

Hero raises 1250
MP calls
Pot was approx 3000 with the antes

Flop AK4 rainbow
Hero bets 1500
MP raises to 4400

What do I do here OOP?
He could have AK but surely he would have 3bet that preflop? Same with AA, KK, QQ.
I figured he either has a mid pair and is testing my cbet or he has a set of 4s. I don't think I can fold so do I reraise or just call?
Is my reasoning correct?

Just call. We are far ahead here or far behind. No need to raise. Just call and let villain hang him self. We can't fold here so strong hand in HU situation. Just go broke to river.
