PokerStars - $0.25 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

BTN: 163.36 BB (VPIP: 23.81, PFR: 23.81, 3Bet Preflop: 22.22, Hands: 22)
Hero (UTG): 101.4 BB
MP: 133.2 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has 8♦ 8♣

Hero raises to 3 BB, MP calls 3 BB, fold, BTN raises to 11 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold

BTN wins 10.4 BB

Can we call here and hope MP gets in or is it still -EV? In which cases can we call PPs for set being mway in 3b pot?

Hey G,

Small pairs are too often dead money to purely setmine. If your pair is big enough to not always fold to any cbet then calling is an option but that's an exception, not how you should generally play pairs vs 3bets.

If you are sure you get more people in the pot and you flop the nuts often (don't get it in vs overset or better too often) you can be more inclined to setmine but when you are the one giving the played behind better odds it means he calls wider, therefore less implied odds vs a wide range plus he STILL has the options to fold or 4bet, he doesn't only have the call button.
