Hand recorder for this hand: PokerStrategy.com SideKick 2.0.1031.1

Preflop: Hero is BB with J♠, J♦
SB posts small blind ($0.01), Hero posts big blind ($0.02), UTG3 folds, MP1 raises for $0.06, 5 folds, Hero 3-bets $0.16, MP1 calls

Flop: ($0.37 - 18.50 bb) 6♦, 5♦, 3♥ (2 Players)
Hero bets $0.12, MP1 calls

Turn: ($0.61 - 30.50 bb) A♥ (2 Players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $0.12, Hero calls

River: ($0.85 - 42.50 bb) A♠ (2 Players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $0.58 and is all in, Hero folds, MP1 gets uncalled back ($0.58)

My question is about the play on the turn. I called because his bet seemed a little light. But I guess at the time I just couldn't figure out whether he was trying to pot control with a weak hand, or trying to trap me. Too much speculation I guess, next time i'll just fold on the turn instead of river?

Hey Vaulsc,

Generally when MP1 opens it is better for us the flat call rather than 3bet. We run the risk of isolating ourselves vs better hands when we 3bet vs an early position open.

Flop cbet is fine, although we should potentially bet larger.

Turn check is fine. We really can't check fold vs villain's bet sizing here. We get such great odds and simply just don't need to have the best hand very often to call.

River we can fold. This small bet turn, larger bet river is usually a made hand going for value.
