In spots like these, facing a donk, I call if I have just overcards. With a high top pair, I'm calling too, hoping to have my opponent bluff away. But here, I like raising on the theory that I am ahead, but he has 5-6 outs to beat me. Is this ok, or should I stick to just one line and call close to 100% when donked into on the flop?

Hi!

As default I would definatelly go for standard call flop/raise turn and I would clearly raise any turn here. Sure he may have 5-6 outs against you but raising flop will not rly protect you against that since any pair or overs will call. Raising turn however is different story

As Dawnfall properly mentioned you should stick to the default line call flop and raise any Turn. K Q J that might occur as scarecards are in fact just blanks unless he got some hand like K6 but that happens just rarely and most of the times you're still ahead against lower pairs and straightdraws. 9 and T are cards i'd worry more about but the Q is an absolute blank. Lets say the player inbetween you would have called then i'd rather raise the flop as SB might slow down his action on various turncards and is not going for another bet but in this heads-up-situation call flop raise Turn and bet River.

Thanks for the answers. Yeah, call flop, raise turn seems like the nuts, I see that now.

B t w, I wasn't really thinking directly in terms of protection as a means of having him fold, it was more like getting the bets in when I'm fairly sure to have the best hand.
