I'm not knowledgeable to the gambling laws concerning online gambling.
What would happen if I attempted to make a deposit to say, pokerstars with my local bank in florida?

Online poker is illegal in the states. However there are a few sites that accept american players. Pokerstars does accept american players. Just go in to your bank and ask if they can do that kind of transaction. If your bank says no there are still a variety of ways you can get money to the poker site. Might wanna check with pokerstars to see how you can send money to them. Good luck to you.
I dont think online poker itself is illegal, there are restrictions on transferring money to gaming sites though.
Lots of americans on Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker, the rest I think dont accept americans
