hey. long time no post.
i know i could (maybe should) have pushed this pre.
villian is a pretty solid straight TAG type, so i don't see many aces in his range (AK only, maybe-maybe AQs), and more likely some PP.
So how do you like the flop play?

Hi FishermansFriend,

Really not sure what type of reg calls 475 into a 1700 pot, with only 1375 behind with a pocket pair. In fact, I can't think of any hand that a TAG would play like this with (:(). But assuming a range of 99+, AQ+, or a range of JJ/QQ+, AK... the Ax hands far outweigh the pocketpairs you're ahead of :(.

So I think shove preflop, and as played, check/fold flop. I can also pass this on to Unam if you want.

Hi chenny!

For me it seems too weak to fold on the flop.
I am ahead of both of the ranges you mentioned, and with the c/c (c/r) i wanted to extract more value from the hands that i beat from his range, while going broke against an ace.

Oh and i did not have that many reads from villian so what i wrote is more of an assumption, the line is wierd although. Maybe jacks or tens make sense.

hm, you're right. But I don't think he always/ever turns his pocketpairs into a bluff here either. I'm not sure really. I simply cannot think of any range a regular calls this with :(, although maybe he was just simply as confused as I am now.

well, maybe he could be doing it with jacks, AK or even tens if he can't fold them pre, because he can push them on a low board, and make AK, maybe AQ (which is definetly not in my range) fold there, but going broke against an overpair. still safer than pushing pre because he wont be flipping for 35BB+ this way.

on the flop i still don't see that many aces in his range, and as long as i am ahead, i'm confortable to put my stack in with kings. and i am pretty sure that check/calling is better than leading out.

I'm not advocating bet/fold. I think check/fold is best..

Anyway, no more! I'll wait for Unam :).

Hi,
I would def. shove this pre I would never raise it to play OOP postflop and with him IP you will not win a ton of chips post, so shove and he will not fold TT-JJ.

And to be honest if your read "villain is a pretty solid straight TAG type" is true, then he doesn't call you with many pockets here, he has QQ+ and AK in these spots. Or would you call this with TT or AQ? Usually Hero bets the flop huge and is comitted, and what does he draw for with his hands?
So against his range you have the option to C/F or to C/C this push is a pure waste of chips, he will never fold an A here, and you won't get paid of by smaller pockets. So decide if you see weakness in his bet and play C/C or be disgusted by this flop and C/F, but never C/R.
Btw. since imho you are way more often beat here then you are ahead I would C/F.

uh, ok, you are right about the difference between c/c and c/r in case he never fires a second barrel with weaker hands, which is most likely true. that's bad i slipped over that.

btw i only need JJ in his range to be ahead, and i don't think he would fold that pre (it's the 33s after all), so i still like c/c a little bit more than c/f. i don't hink i am way more often behind against such a small bet.

and yeah, pre shove...

ty both :)
