How much should I raise preflop in a single table SnG tourny with 20+ BB.
I currently raise 4*BB+# of limper*BB

The SHC says to raise 4BB+1BB per limper, but most good players on here raise to 3BB, or 2.5BB when the blinds get high.

How much would u raise with these hands:
Hand 1
(9 handed) Blinds:40/80 (All player have aprox. 1500 chips)
Hero (BTN) dealt AKs
5 limpers Hero?
Hand 2
(9 handed) Blinds:40/80 (All player have aprox. 1500 chips)
Hero (BTN) dealt K10s
Everyone folds Hero?

Hand 1, I'd probably push, (3+5)*80=640 which is over 1/3 of your stack, so you would be pot committed on the flop, so might as well push pre.

Hand 2, You shouldn't really be stealing with over 24 BB's, 26 BB's is pretty close though. I'd probably raise 240 here.

Hi fun101rockets,

As p0kerQT already stated, most people raise 3BB's + 1BB per limper. I also start raising 2.5BB's when the blind level reaches 50-100ish (depending on blind structure). This is pretty standard play on the higher limits, but is necessary in MTT's. It will save you alot of chips in the long run, when stealing blinds.

Best regards,
Stiev

Yeah 3bb + 1 per limper here

When blinds get higher it's 2.5bb but most of the time it's just push fold so...

Like cannell and pokerqt have said before me

A good line mentioned above already is 3BB raise + 1 for each limper.Mid stages i tend to raise 2.5BB and later stages 2.25BB.I like to keep my raises consistent regardless of hand strength as to not give away any reads. With the K10 hand id be raising it 2.5BB. K10s hand on the button is definitely strong enough to steal + you also have position against your opponents if they decide to call.

As above, but when I play on Stars, the level 1 blinds are 10/20, so I tend to raise 5bb + 1bb per limper - I picked that up from one of the Bronze articles.

That is too much you should raise 3bb's+1bb per limper on lower blind levels, and 2.5X to 2.2x on higher blind levels. Article is quite old and assumes that there would me many callers if you raise 3 bb's but nowadays its not necessary.
Smaller preflop raise allows you to c-bet smaller so you don't commit much of your chips in the pot (and of course if you have to fold to resteal/tribet you loose less chips)
I like to start raising to 2.5x when blinds reach 50, 2.3x when blinds reach 100 and 2.2 on higher limits (if i have tighter players left to act i might make it a min raise even on 150 level and higher)

Depends on stakes. Below $20 SnG, 3+1 or 3.5+1 should be fine for 20+bb. Above $20 you dont need to worry so much about thinning the field preflop so I would mostly make it 2.5bb+1 unless you have more than 40bb, in which case 3bb+1 is ok. Remember: the bigger your raise size, the fewer pots you can open (because it becomes expensive to raise and fold to a 3bet), so the stronger your hand has to be.

Gerovit makes good points - solid advice.

Thanks for updating me on that! I'll put it into practice next time I'm at the tables...
