Unknown villain

I can barrel on  turn only or can I try J+ as well? I think he can call twice second PP, he can hit that J turn so that's turn is not that good.

Hi PedroRobertooo

Preflop: what's your range here for 3-betting a random unknown villain? It seems to be random.

Postflop: As played you would need to run 3-barrels to fold any PPs and even then it's iffy (villain dependent). I also don't like your flop underbet there as you don't really set up stacks great at all.

My 3bet range against unknown villain is like this: TT+, AK (sometimes AQ) as value and bluff range is like this: A5s-A2s,K8s,Q8s,J8s,T7s,96s,86s,76s,65s,ATo. T6s isn't in this range but there's not difference between T7s and T6s maybe.

My flop cbet was small yes, but I think he will call a lot of times because this flop isn't hit me as well as him, so he will float a lot, and I will barrel bigger on the turn and the river. This was the plan.

Are you stacking off hands like TT and AQ once you 3-bet them?

Also sure T6 and T7 are very similar but if you start adding every hand that's very similar you'll have a huge 3-bet range.

As far as your strategy goes what cards are you barreling other than hearts (which only show up 20% of the time)?

You clearly aren't betting a high card so that implies you don't really bet much else.

Yes I'm stacking off these hands after 3bet.

So does that imply that you think unknown villains stack off really light CO vs BTN or do you think they 4-bet bluff a lot?

And by a lot I mean more than 1 in 3 times.

CO have to 4bet a lot to not be exploitive. BTN is the best position. I'm in position, CO have a relatively wide range. That's why BTN vs. CO situatuons are the most aggressive. What do you think about this 3bet/5bet range? AQ+, TT+. Do you think is it too wide?

It's not really relevant that CO has to 4-bet a lot to not be exploitative.

Why is that? Because people do NOT play (at 25nl) with that factor in mind so assuming an unknown will 4-bet a lot so he isn't exploited is a sure way to overestimate his range.

Now, the better thing to look at is how do you expect an unknown regular to play here.

Do you expect them to 4-bet bluff 40% of the time, or 50%? Do you expect them to stack off hands like AJs or 99 (after your shove)?

Think about it like this. For AK to be profitable 3-bet/5-bet you need villain to stack off AQ or worse OR bluff 4-bet at least 20-25% of the time. Now, that second part, is somewhat reasonable to expect.

But if that's the requirement for AK what do you think is the requirement for AQ and TT?

Villain's operange:22+, A2s+, K7s+, Q8s+, J7s+, T7s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s, A9o+, K9o+, Q9o+, J9o+, T9o, 98o (31,52%)

A regular's 4bet range looks like this imo: TT+,AKs,ATs,KTs,AKo,AJo,KJo+
TT+ AK 4bet/broke.(6,79%) TT will call sometimes. This means he gonna fold 44 of 90 combos -> 48,89%

When he calls:

       Equity     Win     Tie
MP2    65.95%  64.58%   1.36% { TT+, AKs, AKo }
MP3    34.05%  32.69%   1.36% { TT }

my 3bet range look like this:
TT+, AKs, A5s-A2s, K8s, Q8s, J8s, T7s, 96s, 86s, 76s, 65s, AQo+, ATo (8,9%)
Broke: 4,37%(49%) fold: 4,53%(51%)

Villain's openraise: 3bb
MY 3bet size: 8bb
Standard villain's 4bet size: 19-20bb

When I 3bet he call about 9% +6,79% 4bet -> He will 49% fold 51% defend passive of agg. way

0,49*3bb+0,51*(0,489*20bb+0,511*(-0,51*8bb+0,49*(+100bb*0,34-100bb*0,66)))=1,3bb

Every time I win 1,3bb when I push pocket TT. That could be right if I assume villain's range wrong but please correct me if this is the problem.

I hope I calculated well :)
As you can see I thought in ranges but at least I put only TT against villain's all range because that's the worst card I shove.

Well I think you are quite optimistic when it comes to assigning that 4-bet range for an unknown regular at 25nl 6max.

From the regs you actually have data do you find that this range is actually there? Do you see them calling a shove with TT often in spots like this? I can see JJ+,AK without info and even JJ calls sometimes rather than 4-bet.

But if you really expect all those value combos (not to mention people call some of those QQ+/AK as well) and all those bluff combos then obviously you can ship lighter for value.,

You saying that I can JJ+, AK or maybe QQ+ AK profitably broke only?

I think JJ+ is fine from BTN and the blinds (and AK). I'd only add the rest at 25nl if we have a really aggro image or we have some reads on villain.

But, if you have a big enough sample, check your DB and see how you do with TT and AQ when you stack off from the BTN vs CO (and you can also take a look at all the hands you got called vs a shove and see how often the weaker ones show up)>
