Well you shouldn't even start raising the flop. You have just two overcards so better just call and hope to hit one of your outs.
May I ask you to describe your thoughts on your play before I go on? :)

Of course you may :)

I was thinking that I showed some strength before the flop and I was hoping to scare him off with a raise on the flop. From there I have no idea what I was doing. Maybe I got a little stubber (is that the right word), and refused to let go.

Thanks for replying :)

Thanks for your answer. :)

The problem is that you are either ahead of him so you don't want him to fold. We would like to see him xontinueing his bluff so a call is better here.
If he has a better hand we will never fold as the board isn't very scary so you just give him more money.

After his 3-bet he is nearly never on a worse hand than yours and making him fold is no option anymore so the cap is too much as well.

My line would be to call him down and let him show a bluff or give him as less money as possible. (He may gained more by check/raising the flop.)
Well a calldown with just A-high may be a bit too advanced but if you feel comfortable you can do it in this specific situation. The J on the river makes it even easier as the number of hands which beats us are now lower.

If he checks to you on the river (if you play a simple calldown) then a check behind is the best option. (A bet may be too advanced as well but if you do then bet/fold as you won't see him bluffing here often enough.)

In short:

- Play a simple calldown if you have some showdownvalue but no real strong hand and low chances of getting a better hand off the pot.
- Fold to his river check/raise.
