Folding KK preflop

Okay, I don't have the exact hand details, but this was a position I was in a few years ago and curious to other peoples thoughts.

Basically I was OTB and had a reasonable stack and almost on the bubble.
The tournament started with over 1000 people and now under 100 left with 90 places paying.

I was dealt KK, which for me is both good and bad at this point. Being so close to being in the money, blinds are high, etc.. The tournament started with over 1000 people and now about under 100 with 90 places paying.

3 players before me went All-in, so I folded my KK hand.

The BB also went All-in, so basically 4 players All-in.

2 players had more chips than me (one was the chip leader), the BB was shortstacked and the other had slightly less than me.

I got a lot of criticism when I mentioned this on a poker forum at the time and although I put my case forward that KK against 4 All-ins wasn't worth the risk of going out of the tournament. Everyone basically said you can't fold KK preflop.

Curious to what others would do in this position.

Are you playing to win or to mincash? If you playing to win i call it every day of the week, if not then go ahead and fold...

I would fold KK only if my stack was super deep and i'm risking all of it.

First of all you shouldn't fold a good hand just to get in the money. And you should always try to get your KK all-in pre flop. Calling 3 all-ins...well that depends on your reads, but i would have called because of the bubble and that people shove really light just to chip up from blinds.

But it would be nice to know how that hand ended.

Well if you're playing to mincash its generally a sign that you are not using proper bankroll management...

It's pretty hard to give an opinion here without any information; we need at least stack sizes, knowing something about players and tournament would also be nice: like if it's 5$ turbo or 109+R reg speed..

Generally speaking, KK should be folded preflop only in extreme situations; like satellites itm approaching or so..

It was a while ago, so not got the full details - But I remember it was a $5 Freezeout, reg speed, max players 1500.

I had an above average stack, 1st player was chip stack leader, second was deep stacked and third similar to me. BB probably had around 2 BB left, so was going out pretty soon anyway.

Chip stack leader had 22, and flopped another 2 and took the pot.

I would have lost and gone out of the tournament, but that in itself isn't relevant.

In the end I finished in about 20th position and had a relatively decent payout. Statistically not the greatest play I guess.
