So how would you adjust vs this guy at 40BB deep? Tighten up steal range obviously and what would your 4b bluff range be?

Since this hand I have some more info on him. We played a hand where he min4b/c 5b allin at 40BB deep with 77 BUTvsBB (I was BB w TT). So aggression is definitely tuning up and I think I should try to prevent getting into countless ego battles with this guy.

definitely stealing tighter is the first adjustment. this makes it so your ratio of value hands is higher and the 'quality' of your 4b bluffs higher. So instead of deciding to 4b J7s your 4b will be with KJs or A5s. Hands that 1) have blockers to his value 3b range. and 2) have better equity when he happens to have value.

My other adjustment would be flatting IP sometimes instead of 4b bluffing. This would be dependent on his sizing and meta and how good he is post-flop. I would prefer flatting whenever you have something playable IP rather than getting into a 4b guessing game. You can realise your positional advantage and hand reading post-flop. It sucks that he made it 3x pre, but you can still flat hands like KQ/KJ/AT and more to put him under a lot of pressure on turns when he is OOP.

that BTN v BB 77 v TT hand sounds very standard for 2 competent aggro regs. 4betting 77 on the BTN is his only play and calling the 5b was probably a pre-determined decision for him due to being committed.

another adjustment you can make is open limping the BTN vs his BB. Works good in spots where you don't want to get into a huge 4b pot pre for 50 bigs, but you want to play IP. You can limp/call limp/rr. Balance can be tough, but it is still possible to balance. It is hard for him to have an good answer to this strategy but relies on you having top class post-flop knowledge/hand reading as you will see many more cheap flops and face many more bets on more streets.
