SB posts SB 25, Hero posts BB 50

Pre Flop: (pot: 75) Hero has 9♠ 8♣

UTG calls 50, fold, fold, fold, SB calls 25, Hero checks

Flop: (150, 3 players) 7♦ 8♦ 6♥
SB bets 50, Hero calls 50, UTG raises to 350, fold, Hero ?

Looking for thoughts on how to play this situation. Maybe should have raised when the SB bets out? Looks kind of like UTG might have made a set. Any insight would be great, thanks!

Hi evolv87,

Agree that raising SB (to around 150) bet would be a good move here. Probably forces UTG to just call.

Seems like UTG is protecting from draws here, given his raise size. Sets are very likely, 6s and 7s since you have an 8). He could also be protection AA,KK,QQ. This means you have Ten outs (straight and top set) which is a bit thin to shove in my opinion.

Wouldn't put him on a straight or flush draw because of his large raise.

Against range AA, KK, QQ, 77, 66 you have 41% equity. and require 40%. Very close call I would say.
