Hi
In this hand I hit top pair top kicker. I feel I need to 3 bet so I know were I stand. I could have checked and kept calling his bets but I didn't feel like going down that road. When he pushed all in I begin to think that maybe I have the second best hand and need to let it go. I figure he had kk or aa. But on the other hand he also could have ad AK AQ and bet it like a maniac. Would you ever push all in in this situation considering he is stat
thanks

Hero (CO): 112.3 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♦ K♦

fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, SB raises to 9 BB, BB calls 8 BB, Hero calls 6 BB

Flop: (27 BB, 3 players) K♥ 8♣ 4♥
SB bets 17.1 BB, fold, Hero raises to 40 BB, SB raises to 105.7 BB and is all-in, fold

SB wins 102.2 BB

Edit. Would it make sense to 3 bet light here if I am simply trying to figure out were I stand in the hand?

Hi,

You get too good pot odds to call his shove.
I think raising flop for value is fine, but then I would also call his shove.
I would expect him to call more often 88/44 pre-flop rather than 3-betting these hands pre-flop and he likely has enough flushdraws which he would get all-in on the flop besides KK/AA, which both are quite unlikely. Also he would play the same way AK/KQ.

If I take reasonable 3-bet pre-flop range then you´re ahead:
board: Kh8c4h
Hand Equity Wins Ties
AdKd 58.08% 13,150 5,901
AA, KK, AK, Ah*h, KQ 41.92% 8,669 5,901

He has 3-bet % 3,57 but consider you opened from CO I think he might 3-bet you lighter than just QQ+, AK

If I give him very tight range I would just call flop and likely would fold to his turn shove.

best regards,
