I was aiming to check raise the river as I was sure someone would bet after two calls on the turn, but should I have just bet the river anyway? How much, half pot, 2/3 or a small bet to try and get a bluff?

I prefer checking flop when its 5way pot. E.g. in 3way pot I would lead it. In 5way pot its very unlikely to take pot down in flop so I like checking to see how hand develops. As played turn is fine and river is mandatory bet.

Checking river is not good, because in such multiway pot villains will be afraid of flush possibility and are unlikely to bluff or value bet hand like QJ or KT. So betting yourself has best EV value, because villains will still have hard time to fold Kx here. Some Jx might call also.
