Question about 2-7 TD

Hey I played this game for my first time today and really started getting the hang of it.

That was until this happened

On the river I lost a pot

Villan showed: 8h6h5s4s3h
Hero Showed: 8c7h6c4h2h

I thought that hands were built from the bottom up not the top down?

I take it I am wrong with this

Thanks for your help

Yep. Top down. Read it as a number. 86543 < 87642.

yes hands should be built from the bottom up, but this concept refers to the type of starting hands you should be drawing to. for example 234 is a premium draw whilst 754 is junky and usually not playable.

this is because 234 makes a strong hand far more often than hands like 754 864 763 875.

elaborating slightly on jbpatzer's comment regarding this show down, read your hand as a number, highest card first with the lowest number winning so 86,543 is lower that 87,642 and therefore is stronger.

hope that helps.

which site and limits are you playing on at the moment? its a great game i only wish there was more action.

Hi guys :)

adamall,

I found it helpful to read made hands from top dawn as nimbers.
So:

Villan showed: 8h6h5s4s3h - that's like: eighty SIX thousand five hundred and forty three - 86543
Hero Showed: 8c7h6c4h2h - that's like: eighty SEVEN thousand six hundred and forty two - 87642

So villan made a lower number so he wins :)

I have just started playing 2-7 TD myself and have couple of questions :)

#1 How many bigbets should I sit down with? :f_biggrin:

#2 I read somewhere that the top 6 starting hands are:
1) 2-3-4-x-x
2) 2-3-7-x-x
3) 2-3-5-x-x
4) 2-4-5-x-x
5) 2-4-7-x-x
6) 2-5-7-x-x
Is that correct?
I'm asking because somewhere else I read that the best ever starting hands are 1 card 7LOW draws like 7 – 4 – 3 – 2 – X ?

Hey adasko99,

I do enjoy 2-7 so much. It is fun and I'm a bit of a fish so take my comments with a grain of salt.

As a limit game, I generally use what I use for Stud games which is 40 Big Bets.

Certainly they would be my best starters in TD. 7432x I feel is stronger in NL SD. It can continuall force you into awkward decisions if you hit a 9 or T on the 1st draw. Do you stand pat and just barrel the pot to try and force your opponents to fold? If you do and your opponents stays, what do you do after the 2nd draw if you opponent stands pat and plays back at you?

In TD 7432x can only draw a 5 or a 6 to be truly strong. Rough 8s and 9s will often get you into trouble particularly in multi-way pots. In SD however, not only hitting a 5 or 6 makes a strong hand. Hitting 8 or 9 is OK. Depending on how many cards your opponents are drawing, even T or J can be solid.

Regards

Laz

#1 as long as you have at least 12 BB at the start of every hand (to cover a potential cap on every street) then you have enough chips.

#2 that is a list of the best 2 card draws. 1 card draws are much better. 2347 is a monster starting hand in td, the BEST 1 card draw. play it with reckless abandon.

different question - how come "6" is so bad if so many very good made hands contain a six? ( #2 , #3 , #4 , #6, #7, #8, #9 )

hands with 6's can be strong, but to cut a long story short 6's make a lot of straights and second best hands. dont avoid them completely but try to excercise caution.

I've got two question :)

1) Are hands like 236 , 246 , 256 - good , medium or bad starting hands? :)

2) badgerer, before when you said i need at least 12BB did you mean 12 big blinds or 12 big bets? I'm assuming I only need 6 big bets to cover the cap at every round right?

#1 in my opinion they are mediocre, i would open them in any position but probably fold to an open. a lot of players would recommend folding these in early position.

#2 i meant big bets, whenever you see 'BB' like this in capitals it means big bets. 'bb' in lower case means big blinds.
