I'm having a lot of trouble with that river bet sizing, finding any hands we still beat. I've encountered A LOT of players who make what I would consider an overbet for value with monsters in the last couple of months.

In this spot as the villain with AK I'm not sure I even fire for a value street except against loosey gooseys. Certainly never against a reg.

I'm not super happy with folding top two, but I can't find a hand I can beat that can play these lines. UTG has a usable read at this point as a tight regular. During the streets I was already a bit finicky and seeing "aces under the bed", vs this villain which is why I decided not to raise the flop for value (and certainly there is little need for protection).

Also I would sometimes find a preflop fold here and probably that would have been the best line. Calling vs a tight UTG FR range not only isn't great to start with, but it was multiway OOP. The only good news is we got a BB discount - which probably made the call good. Whatever, I just hate taking flops with AQ.

Squeezing vs a very tight UTG's open raise is ruled out. He doesn't have enough folds.

(Edited to fix positioning as I mixed it up slightly with a hand where I called AQ in UTG+1)

Why are we not x/raising the flop? River looks like a good fold.

Good river fold. UTG is rarely bluffing on the turn (3-handed!). He likes his hand. The river must the be a value bet.

Wp you really only win AT If that is even in his range.

Good fold or not, you do have to reckon with the fact that if you fold AQ then your opponent is literally making you fold 100% of your hands.

We call 22. It has another block of combos it can beat... AQ!

When we hold AQ we both mostly block villain from holding AQ and could be calling for a split.

I obviously don't know whether you would actually have 22 there, but obviously you have to be honest with yourself. Almost every poster around here would tell you to never be balanced and always x/r sets and bet bet bet go all in immediately to get max value. I'm just saying you can't have it both ways. Regardless it was a disciplined fold on the river and you should be happy for yourself.

You are right of course, I am never flatting that flop behind a bet and a call with 22. X-R-S for value flop.

I'm really confused here why is everyone saying its a good fold? What is a likely utg raise range pre?

Lets say villain only has aces queens and AQ by the river.

There are 4 combos of AQ of which we split. 1 combo of aces which wins and 1 combo of queens that wins.

This makes it pretty much equal ev to either call or fold. Adding in some overplayed ak or ats and its a reasonably easy call.

If villain isn't raising AQo pre then we need just 1 of villans 8 combos of aks and ako to overplay to make the call neutral ev. In this instance playing Aqo pre is the bigger mistake than calling on the river in my view.

Sidenote: With the btn call on the flop you also have to assume btn has Qx or Ax a reasonably large amount of the time. leaving villain with only 1 hand combination that beats you.

It's more a read on the villain and what kind of range they will take value on this third street with than specifically saying "only x combos beat us now".

It is very difficult to see a fairly tight villain take value with a hand AQ can beat here, especially in such a big street. His stat read at this point is very much tight regular.

That said it is still possible he is overplaying TPTK on the river as we have shown no aggression, and it is common for villains to overplay for value at these limits. I'm still on the side of a fold but also still torn about.

Don't we run into monsters too often if we x/r here? Don't we fold out UTGs AK this way?

This might be true had the hand been played HU on all streets. It wasn't. But if you still think you need to protect from exploitation, then you should call with, say 1 or 2 combos' of AQ, but not all 9. Bluffing is (and should be) seriously reduced multiway. ~~~~

It doesn't matter too much anyway since it's full ring and BB should have a tight calling range preflop to begin with.

jmackenzie said interesting things about this hand and the combos stuff.
Interesting to mention that u played ur hand so weak that villain can be confidant about his AK here.
That said, I think its close to call or fold.
