i just open limp with my 22 because the players are loose defenders but somehow passiv, so raising is not their top choise preflop.
so limping here was a good option.

i flopped a monster and obviously just called the flop bet.
on the turn i decided its time to raise so he has to pay me off with a 8 or a FD.
but my raise was low so he might keep playing with 8x and a FD.
on the river came the worsed card beside another 8.
he moves allin on the river so now anything beats me except the flush.
would he push here with a flush ?

Hes bet on the river is to strange to be a full house i think. Why would somebody wanted to overbet the pot that much when you want a call.

sick card , cant call this , would not like calling with a 8

liked the way you played hand though

Hi,

PRE FLOP: I don't understand the open limp tbh.

FLOP: You both have bigish stacks, why not make a small raise to build the pot. We know that any hand he has bet out with, he will call a smallish raise with. Thinking about taking his full stack would be my main aim at this point.

TURN: I'd raise slightly more, again to build the pot that extra little bit.

RIVER: No brainer imo.

i open limped from the button because i saw them calling with many hands in steal situations but they were not willing to raise on their own
so instead of trying to steal their blinds i was comfortable at seeing a cheap flop instead of a big one with my ducks.
of course this is not a standard play and i only use it 1/10 of the time perhaps.
but limping from the button should be used from time to time and here the situation as perfect.
lose passiv callers are not the players i like to have inthe blinds when trying to steal.

true that he might call a raise on the flop.
but i was thinking about a pair between 8 and 2.
with these kind of hands he might fold to a raise, but will continue to bet on the turn if no flush hits.

but i think yesterday i played totally out of line.

Well...if they are really bad and do not fold anything, I like the open limp. Usually I would of course raise 22. flop and turn play is fine and river is just a bad card - unlucky - fold - and never think about it again ^^

So we open limp, in an attempt to take a small pot? To play this hand in an unraised pot, we need to hit to take it down, and even then we need the other guy to hit.

If they defend by calling, I prefer the raise. If we hit we have a chance to play a nice big pot, if we don't we can still take it down with a C-bet. They are both passive, so theres a good chance it will be a cheap showdown anyway.

I do think theres situations were open limping the button is a good move. but imo, I don't think this is one of them.

i somehow disagree on that.

if a player calls your button raise very lose because he wants to defend his blind, then he will call your conti bet as lose as your preflopraise.
so if the flop comes
J64 and he has something like Q6, this kind of player will call your contibet 100% of the time because its somehow unlikely for him to give me a jack here.
i might win the pot with 2nd barrel if he really holds a Q6 but with J3 he will not fold to ANY barrel.

but if you limp, this looks a bit different.
now they will often BET at me if they hit the flop, so a bet of half size the pot on the flop will take the pot down more often against such type of players then the continuation bet in a raised pot.

they thhink the way like this.
in an unraised pot the pot is small, so fighting for a small pot isnt worth so many chips.
in a raised pot they think like, wee i have to defend, i hit something so i try to win this big pot.

and again this is not my standard play, but against such lose somehow passive players, who are thinking this way, i think this play can be used.

My main reason for not open limping here, is that its a MTT.

I fail to see that you can have such a solid read on both blinds. How many times have they defended by calling against you? I mean if its a cash game and you have a solid read, then fair play.

Even if you were sat on a table with them for 2 hours. You would only have raised your button 5-6 times maximum. One of them could have had a pocket pair each time, and prefer to not play PP's in 3-bet pots, therefore they called. I don't think you can have a such a solid read on both players to make this the best play in a mtt.

yea this might be true.
but i have one good solid read on the BB because i saw him many times, and i had about 250hands and he only folded his BB to steal in 34% of the time.
but i agree
my reads might have been not solid enough for this situation.
but if you see the blinds calling raises so often you get suspicous and try to play a bit different.

but i think you cannot have the solid reads in an MTT thats true...
but therefor you have to adopt faster to not so solid reads in my opinion.
because if you only adopt to solid rock reads then you play allways against unknown players.

but as mentioned earlier, the standard play is of course raising to 2,5-3 BB

I dont think flush, I think he has a random queen

to minbet flop then call your reraise on turn doesnt make much sense with a flushdraw

his flush also wouldnt beat anything which hit the board as you clearly have, so river shove with flush is crazy here

you started raising after the Q hit the turn, so big pair is folding here when second Q hits

the flop minbet i think is the key to reading his hand

so what did he have?

hero folded and will never know
i suppose himto hold an 8

thing with this hand and playing any MTT you need to build chips & here you flopped a monster and over 90% to win before the river

personaly dont see much wrong in playing the players & trapping works so well to build a big stack compared to lucking out on some 50/50 which in the end you will lose one

still think its a nice hand & just sick card on river

some loose passive players would C/C your cbet with any pair and any draw.
against these you still have FE, as they only hit pairs in 1/3 of cases or whatever, and you have lots of pot equity vs draws.

other loose passive players will never fold A high on the flop, and will sometimes C/C worse than A-high. then they just check down. against these the line steal - cbet seems even more profitable to me.
