At the time I thought I played this ok but now I look at it I think I should have bet a lot more on the flop to protect against draws. I think I bet small to look weak or somthing. Maybe I was just pissed he hit a runner runner straight.

In this spot it is ok to shove preflop... The 3 bet commits you to push on the flop if you are to play so just shove it...

As played a 300 bet into a 1800 pot is very weak... 1/2 pot is 1/2 your stack and that is not really enough to protect, so you have to shove the flop...

Hope not to offend, I am still learning heaps here,
so when I lay out an opinion, It is to see how the judge calls it and the
others so I can also learn how far off my thoughts are.

According to the charts, steal raise is between 14 and 24 BBs.
Hero has more then 24 BBs, so I'm not shoving....

3 raising his min raise says ok buddy.. you have something but so do I
And I think what I have is better.

When he flats instead of shoving.. because he is more vulnerable to
being commited then hero.. Im not fearing monsters.

When I hit my set, this is where I agree with OP...

There is a flush draw so 1/2 pot is good.

Unless I misread you which im sure I do, the 3 raise does not commit you.
Half pot bet is not half of heros stack.

Not by stack size....

You can get away from a flop that has an ace or king thinking if he flats maybe he has AK AQ suited Ace...

But half size pot makes it a bad play or a mistake for Villain to shove on a draw.

Worst case scenario, he has a set too, which Id be happy to get it all in with 3 jacks.

IMHO I think you were ahead here and made the right play calling his shove, but I think 1/2 pot was better bet.

Sorry meant 1/2 pot was half villain's stack....

The play is meant to extract maximum value... what hands would call a preflop shove from the BB? 77+, AJ, KQ, KJ? maybe worse...

The 3-bet here can leave you with a tricky situation when a flop comes AQ10... hero c-bets and villain reraises or villain gives up the hand... either option sucks... so push, more often than not a worse hand calls or the pot is decided preflop... plus it's horrible here for villain to flat call a 3-bet, he should just shove anyway....

Villain has 17BBs so hero's effective stack is 17BB so I still shove here...

I agree with this. As played just bet a nice big amount on the flop and call a push.
