After the donk flop/check turn i figured his range was capped to one-pair type hands, so i decided to go for an overbet bluff, something i haven't worked into my game quite yet, but i want to experiment with. He calls and the river is a blank. I still think he has a one-pair type hand, so i overbet jam and get called by K5. I feel like my reasoning was ok.. A reasonable player would fold a K there surely?

Villain donks = he has something. He checks OTT so maybe he is capped to one pair hands. That turn doesn't change anything. Because you didn't raise him OTF you are capped too and don't rep a very strong range, draws mostly. You would have raised OTF with 2 pair and sets and OTT top pairs wouldn't overbet. Again river is a blank and it is reasonable for villain to think that you are bluffing a missed draw. It was a bit weird of him to call you with so poor kicker.

I suggest you either check behind turn and stab river or stab turn smaller and give up.

I figured most NL5 players wouldn't know what a capped range is and just fold a king there :f_frown:

Agree with this. Like the river bet more.

You know, they can know too :)
Maybe they do not know what capped means but maybe they have a voice inside their hear that they don't yet understand that is telling you have a bluff :f_ugly:
