Stars $3 + $.40 SnG. The short stack has stolen a few blinds by shoving like this the last orbit. Everyone else has been playing pretty tight.

$15/$30 No Limit Holdem
7 players
Converted at weaktight.com

Stacks:
Hero (UTG) ($1470.00)
UTG+1 ($1470.00)
MP ($629.00)
CO ($3282.00)
BTN ($2460.00)
SB ($1410.00)
BB ($2779.00)

Pre-flop: ($45, 7 players) Hero is UTG A♥ K♦
Hero raises to $90, UTG+1 calls $90, MP raises to $629, 4 folds, Hero raises to $1,168, UTG+1 raises to $1,470, Hero calls $302

Lately, I've been mixing things up a little when I open, generally 4-betting half the time and 3-betting the rest. The reraise amount was a misclick on my part, as I planned to shove to isolate the short stack. When UTG+1 reraised me, I was committed anyway.

Flop: 3♥ 5♠ 7♣ ($3,614, 3 players)

Turn: K♠ ($3,614, 3 players)

River: 7♦ ($3,614, 3 players)

Final Pot: $3,614

Results (highlight to view):
UTG+1 shows: 8♣ 8♥
MP shows: 4♣ A♣
Hero shows: A♥ K♦
Hero wins $3,614 ( won +$2,144 ) UTG+1 lost -$1,470 MP lost -$629

Considering the size of the blinds, should I have made the play?

I like it. Although overshoving would indeed be better, obvious misclick :)

I'd fold after reraised, my thinking on this one is simple: you raised preflop and got reraised hard comparing to your first raise, you'd have to risk too much in hopes to connect your AKo with something and wining the pot, let someone else do it, even if the shortstack was weak player, he represented strenght and even weak players gets good cards. So what if he stole few blinds before? If he stole it, he didn't went to showdown so you don't know what his pushing range is. So i fold here. The situation got even worse when UTG+1 pushed all in, now you are in multyway pot, risking all your stack with hand that really needs to be improved by comunity cards, most of the time you'd loose in such situations. Imho.

Because of the preflop coldcall I put UTG+1 on small pocket pairs for set value. I think I would overpush too. UTG+1 should fold very big part of his range for a raise/push/overpush line, especially that you show big strenght and he risks his elimination. And I think you beat MP's range so it would be a +EV overpush.

Firstly AKo is doing great against shortstackers range so I don't really wanna pass on this chance to win few chippies... Giving UTG+1 any credit for a hand is way off... He can call the raise here with wide selection of hands... So when he calls(although he overshoves he's kinda calling you know we are committed :) ) with 88 we're just unlucky... he should throw that hand away every time :)

I mean the blinds aren't big enough so you should be taking big coinflips or whatever and well there's no real dead money in the pot but I still think AKo is doing good enough against shortstackers range to make this move here.

But the blinds weren't that high to put a pressure on shortstacker so i see no logical reason to put him on dominated range even if he pushed few times before. :)

AKo is doing good against every range we can put him on :)

and I don't wanna sound stupid but tbh I think he'll never flip over KK AA here... Simply because he would raise those hands to 300 rather than shoving here :)

And on these limits I often see the guys loose all hope when the go under 1k chips no matter what the blinds are and they simply shove stupid hands :)..

The short stack has stolen a few blinds by shoving like this the last orbit.

Basicly the fact he has been shoving with his 20bb stack tells us pretty much how loose he's shoving here...

I think most of the time we're facing a wide range AKo is doing really well against...

if not we're prolly facing something like 99+ ATs+ AJo+ which AKo is 55% favorite... and this is worst case range in my opinion.

I agree it's way to early to take marginal spots but I think I couldn't pass on this spot :)

Agree with Hlynkinn... Overshoving all the time... I'm sorry but you cannot get me to fold AK when a shortstack shoves over my raise...

Hi all,

Your hand is definitely good enough at the low limits to shove over the shortstack. No idea what UTG+1 is doing, but whatever... shove directly over the raise BTW! do not pass go, do not save 302$..
