A8o BB ITM

BU 36/34 3bet 18% - 246 hands
SB 31/14 3bet 13% - 131 hands

ICMizer says QQ+ here, but BU had been 2.5X loads and had folded whenever he had been raised, but with the SB so short should I just call and see a flop for an extra 1.5BB?

Poker Stars, $3.11 Buy-in (100/200 blinds, 25 ante) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 3 Players

SB: 1,848 (9.2 bb)
Hero (BB): 4,541 (22.7 bb)
BTN: 7,111 (35.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A♠: 8♣:
BTN raises to 500, SB folds, Hero raises to 4,516 and is all-in, BTN calls 4,016

Flop: (9,207) 7♠: 8♥: 6♣: (2 players, 1 is all-in)
Turn: (9,207) T♠: (2 players, 1 is all-in)
River: (9,207) K♦: (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results:

Spoiler

9,207 pot
Final Board: 7♠: 8♥: 6♣: T♠: K♦:
Hero showed A♠: 8♣: and lost (-4,541 net)
BTN showed K♠: K♥: and won 9,207 (4,666 net)

It depends a lot about his fold to 3bet stats and steal stats, but normal I wouldn’t gamble against the chip leader with a hand like A8o with a shorter stack still in.

He had r/f a lot, since 5 handed play he must have r/f at least 8 times, probably more. I had done it to him at least 4 times

It is not the decisive point, however, if we consider just statistics we miss out on the fact that human beings have consiousness and thus a lot dynamics and ability to adjust to circumstances based on previos experience. For this reason I would already narrow his r/f range at this spot. I am not sure coz I don't play 6max often enough but based on BTN stats he does not seem like a fishy player who is able to understand the dynamics. He still might have had a wide OR range but shoving 21 bb against a player who had you cover and short stack still play + 1 player until ITM is way too risky.

Also take a note why the opp choses this sizing: does he want to extract more value and inflate the pot fot possible postflop or for other reason...

I don't like cold calling oop with a hand which is not very playable postflop in the first place. If you hit your A you don't extract much from weaker hands coz you line will be too obvious if you bet or call with A on board and If you don't hit you will have to fold to aggression.

This is a 9man it was already ITM, its not the bubble

That was his standard open size, nothing unusual there

Surely I cant fold A8o in the BB to a BU raise?

Looking back if I was equal stacked with SB I might still shove but seeing as he is so short I should have just called
