AA vs 77 Is my logic here okay?

Hey Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on whether I played this hand correctly or not.

Summary of play
I raise 2.5BB with aces, and two people call to the flop. I continuation bet on a relatively friendly board and the player to my left flat calls. Next card is another 6 and another diamond, and because I'm out of position I check first to gauge his response, he makes a small bet so I call. Final card is an non-diamond 5. I check, he bets large, I call, and lose to trip 7s.

My thought process
Here's my main dilemma, as played I read his hand as middle sized pocket pair. I figure he wouldn't have come in at all with small connectors to make the straight. His call on flop, then check on turn made me rule out trips. So that left him with either a decent size pocket pair might would act this way, or perhaps a missed draw who's now bluffing on the river due to me showing little strength post-flop.

My question is, did he just slow-play and bluff me beautifully, or did I fail in my play or thought process somehow?

This is a tournament hand. Move it to the appropriate forum.
It depends on the level of tournament.

It’s also good to know what kind of player we are dealing with, because on the $1,10 limit you will see a lot of fishy players. I wouldn’t be surprised you can still shove for value on the turn against an unknown on these stakes.

Further I recommend removing the outcome of the hand or put them in to a spoiler. This could influence the feedback what you get.

Cheers,

I would play the aces even more aggro!!! No checking: barrel barrel barrel!!!! The reason is that in a 1.10 USD buy-in there are so many bad players who call you down with middle or bottom pair or a draw or even ace-high.

The 7 on the flop is bad luck! With AA you have 80-90 % equity against a random hand.

If I bust against a lower pair (suck out): so be it! In 80-90% you double up so just keep betting for value!
