From Small Stakes Hold'em by Malmuth, Miller & Sklansky page 285-286

In the first Turn Play question

If I have:

A :spade:K :spade:

And without the river card, the board is:

T :spade: 6 :spade: 4 :club: 2 :diamond:

HOW MANY OUTS TO THE NUTS DO I HAVE ?

in the quiz, it says "7, or maybe more" - pls explain. thx

(Why not 9 (all other spades), or only 4 ( 3, 5, J and Q of spades), if you discount all the theoretical straight flushes, that can be completed)

Is it 7 outs, because 4 or 2 of spades would give someone with a set of tens or sixes a full house, but any straight flush possibilities are just too unlikely to be taken into consideration ?

Hi Pirokunn,

you almost got the answer by yourself.

The definition of "the nuts" is an unbeatable hand. As a flush can be beaten by a fullhouse a flush with the 4 :spade: or 2 :spade: can't count as the nuts.

This doesn't mean that you have a monster if you hit your flush with a 4 :spade: or 2 :spade:.

Thing is, if the 7s, 8s or 9s comes you don't have the nuts either.
