Is there any value to calling in position, leaving the opponent's range wider or is it just better to play it straight?

Villain is showing strength by cold 4b. Here you should push. No need to slowplay.

I expect the SB will 4 bet tight against so much action and he will stack off most of the time and in this case, you are unlucky he still folds here.

This is definitely a spot where I suffer from negative confirmation bias facing what seems like frequent folds :)

I agree with pushing, but there is nothing wrong with calling once in a while against opponents you play with day in and day out. Helps to keep them in line in case they begin to read you well.
