bet sizing

Hi all,

I read the poker strategy article re bet sizing for a three bet and I found very helpful and it made a lot of sense to me. However I enjoy watching the professionals on various streams and particularly some Pokerstars EPT and it seems to contradict the theory behind the article. Bet sizing seems much smaller and does not seem to deny the original raiser the pot odds to call. I appreciate that they're thinking on a different universe to me, however I would be grateful for anyone who can help me understand their perspective.

Hi Gwesyn,

Are you playing tournaments or cash games? I can't give you any good answers about tournament play because I'm a cash player myself. But in the tournaments you are watching the pro players can change their sizings according to stack sizes and player types.
They can do non-standard moves sometimes because they know how to play. If you are a beginner I suggest you stick to the basic strategy you will find here :) Watching other players and just copying their moves can be dangerous. It is very important that you understand what you are doing and why.

Thanks for your response La55i,

I was refering to tournament play. Don't worry no intention of immitating them lol!!! It's just I was curious to understand their logic. You make good points that they have stack sizes etc to consider. That makes sense. But I guess I just have to accept they are on a diffetent level of thinking (sigh) lol!
