Hello,

again.....I am down to 20 BB.

Is it better to play it this way or would it be better to shove preflop?

Best regards

HI, Dominik,

Preflop: I like the way you play it preflop - as minraise. No need to open shove here QQs with 20BBs in my opinion.

Postflop: on flop you are having stone cold nuts, so if I was in your shoes, I would check behind to let him hit his A or K or even some backdoor draw; or maybe he even starts to do some bluff bets on turn, then you could just call. And you just could call turn if he bets and call river to catch his bluffs or even maybe re-raise all in on river, if his bet sizing tells he's got something.

In some cases I like to do the open shove with 20BBs with strong hands like yours (depending on players in blinds) cause it looks more weaker to blinds - so they migh call something like Ax, KQs, 55+ or something like that.

Good luck!
John

don't forget the fact that if we check behind in this spot, we do make our check back range stronger, and that make us protect our weaker holdings when we choose to check back.

I don’t think that doesn’t matter in a 55c tournament. I don’t think the players are capable to adjust to that and it’s a good board to slow play on and I don’t think you will get to often 3 streets of value anyway on a dry board like this.

Cheers,

Nah that's true but all value we can gain from a none eq hand is pretty great. And if he has a value hand we will get all the money into the pot by the river anyways. And if i would cb I would cb something like 33% of pot.

If we're talking about flop when you hit your set with QQ but all cards are same suit?

- I would check behind (as I dont wanna get re-raised AI here on flop, even though we're still having outs for full house) I think it would depend on the opponent and smth like1/3 pot. And I've seen players goin' broke on one-suited flop with Kx and Ax hands with this one diamond.
- The effective stack size is 20BBs so I assume, most of cases I would go broke here cause we're having outs for full house, and possibility for him to hit flush on flop is 0,85% (Though sometimes ofcourse it's happening as you might know., and sometimes you can run into opponents flushes many times a day, but thats poker as you know. Only long run counts, and in long term you would win imo)
- If this was cashgame or we were >40 or 50BBs deep, then I wood think a bit more adn maybe do some moves with bet sizing, but it's all situation depend.

Here I gave some hands to your opponent (from what I've seen at the table and what would be reasonable for them to have, in my opinion)

Board: Q♦7♦6♦
       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     82.95%  81.47%   1.48% { QhQc }
BB     17.05%  15.57%   1.48% { KK+, 77-66, A2s+, K9s+, QTs+, J9s+, T9s, 98s, 87s, 76s, 54s, A2o+, KTo+, QJo }

This happens if we're up against AJs on flop with 2 diamonds and you have set:

Board: Q♦7♦6♥
       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     74.44%  74.44%   0.00% { QhQc }
BB     25.56%  25.56%   0.00% { AdJd }

Ofcourse if you're up against OESD and FD with your set then you're underdog with only 32.42% to win.

Board: Q♦5♦4♦
       Equity     Win     Tie
BU     32.42%  32.42%   0.00% { QhQc }
BB     67.58%  67.58%   0.00% { 7d6d }

How long have you been playing/syudying the game?

In general - I would advise you to watch as many videos here on pokerstrategy.com as you can, and read all the articles you can find (psychology for sure, as well), and use all the poker tools you can get (Holdem Manager, Equilab from Pokerstrategy (this is free download), the more you'll be studying the more easier will be to make the decisions at the table. And ofcourse, some difficult spots you can always analyse here on hand forum, but keep studying the game and the results will start to come.

GL,
John

I'm not sure if you've missed that you've a full house. You are loving it if he makes a flush.

I would check back flop and hope he makes a flush and bets heavily,
I would just check call on this board and hope he bets, and hope he makes 2 pair, flush etc. on river I would raise his bet by as much as I thought I could get him to call with.
