Am I running a bit bad or too many leaks?

Hi all, Have not played poker for about six years and just started again.

I play at pokerstars now, $0.01/0.02 :f_biggrin:

Have played ~3000 hands and the game has changed. Looks like most of the money comes from preflop betting and three betting.
At this moment I am down about 4 buyins. Now.. a lot of that is my mistake but...... also have the feeling I am not running that well.

Now my question: The graph below (fullhouse and straight) and the kings. Does that look like running not that good or can these also be leaks?

KK: -$1.74

Hi,
probably too many leaks. It might be variance as well, but you can´t do anything about that, so better thing that u have leaks and study, study and study. 3k is nothing, you can´treally say much. At nl2 the money doesn´t come from preflop games, it´s actullay the opposite. A lot of players have decent preflop game (probably not at NL2 though), so your edge comes postflop. You shouldn´t really 3bet as a bluff preflop, if u are not sure about that. I would say, that you can beat NL2 with ease without having 3bet bluff range. And I would suggest you so, at least not at the beginning, when u are not sure about your game.

Impossible to say just based on that info. Your sample size is very small.

There is an easy way of knowing whether you just ran bad or had leaks.. You have only 8 straights, post the hands here. Let's see if we can find some spots where you could have saved money.

In general I see you are pretty passive if the hand gets lumped until you attempt to steal with a decent range and fold to a 3 bet.
I see postflop that you chase gutshots in multiway pots and some freeplayed pots that you complicate yourself more than you should. Respect pot odds is a very important thing.
As a rule of thumb best double pairs or better is bet/bet/bet in limped pot but don't complicate yourself if draws get completed.
I advise you a book called:
The poker blueprint by Tri Nguyen or Harrington on cash games 6-max edition.

Hand 1:
River completes your straight but it also completes a flush. Villain is a fish and could call with crap (as he did) but I would still be very careful when betting out of position on that kind of board.

Hand 2:
One good tip: don't raise rivers without nuts. Ofc at some point vs some villains you want to have balanced range and some bluffs too but in this spot I would just call. There are full houses and a better straight possible.

Hand 3:
I would continue betting turn. As played OTR villain can have 6x or a flush. He is not raising you with a weaker hand than Ax and that is just a split. I think you maybe can't call there.

Hand 4:
This is ok. Only 56 beats you and you block it.

Hand 5:
KTo might be strong enough to iso-raise.
This one is close. Since we are playing against fish who might go broke with a wide range I guess it is ok. If villain was 100bb deep reg I might just call his 3bet.

Hand 6:
I would consider stabbing OTF or at least OTT. They check twice so betting is usually autoprofit. They will fold.

Hand 7:
This is ok

Hand 8:
Seems ok too.

Conclusion:
I don't see very big problems here. By following a simple rule: don't go crazy OTR without nuts, you will save some money.

But what others have said, 3000 hands is nothing.
You could also look at the Expected value stats to see if you are unlucky in that.

Hand 5 is a typical hand that you should not 4bet OTT. Either call the 3bet or fold. On 2NL you see very little 3bets postflop on turn and river and it always means they have the nuts (or close to it).
Toss your straight here, or at least keep the pot under control. it will save you money

maybe you can improve your game selection a bit
when you say, its alot about preflop, sounds pretty reggish. even on micros, when the weaker player busts, often times then just sitting nits around and waste their time^^ (i doubt that anyone has that big edge then, to make signifikant winnigs post the rake, for example. small edge -> high varaince and so on:D)
stay away from zoom, open tables and stuff like that;)

That graph pretty much shouts you ran like sh....
Statistically ( = All-in Adjusted) you should have gotten close to $1, in reality you lost close to $11. A gap of $12 due to "unluckyness"

Explaination of All-in Adj / examples:
You are all-in with AK vs TT. The pot is $4. Chances are ofcourse 50:50, so statistically you have a right to 50% of the pot aka no profit nor loss.
But in reality the pot will either go to you or to him. If it goes to him, your "All-in Adj" will be $0, but your profit-line will drop $2
If the pot goes to you, your "All-in Adj" will still be $0 but your profit line will go up $2.

If you are all-in with a 70% lead in a $4 pot, and loose the hand, your profit-line will drop $2, and your "All-in Adj" will raise with 20% of $4 = 80ct. (you should have gotten 70% of the pot, you paid 50% of the pot, so statistically you should have won 20% )

If you loose a few of those all-in hands in a row, your profit line will go down fast, while your "All-in Adj" will not move, or a lot less or even go up.

Rule of thumb:
If the All-in Adj line is above your profit-line, you ran bad.
If the profit-line is above the all-in adj, you ran hot.
In the end, after a zillion hands, the all-in adj line will convert to your profit line, always.

One thing which should be mentioned (maybe it´s been mentioned already). You might beat it like 5bb/100, maybe even more, but there is always space to make winrate higher, so no matter if u run bad or good, you should be trying to improve your game all the time. Assuming you play NL2, there should be a lot of work to do yet :).
