cold call preflop range question

Hi i'm working on my ranges and i'm a little confused as some range sheets ive worked from differ from what snowie advises. The question is about pp's i have been calling any pp on the BTN vs UTG although the range sheet ive worked from suggests folding 22 i added it to calls.

But snowie advises folding 22-66 on the BTN vs UTG. Is it a huge mistake to call 22-66 on the BTN vs UTG at 10nl in softer games ?

I wasn't sure of the correct section to post , please move if needed.

cheers.

Hey BingoWings,

I will move this to the 'No Limit' board, merely because it will be visible longer and is more likely to be seen by guys participating in the Hand Discussions who are the most likely to have opinions.

Regards

Laz

We occasionally play small pocket pairs on the button with the aim to hit a unsuspected small set on the flop for maximum value because stronger hands will either not put you on a small set or won't be able to lay down their own big pairs. If we hit we extract maximum value from it but if we miss we'll check fold.

So it's a play you want to reserve for multi-handed pots with a lot of callers in front of you. Against only UTG chances are if you do hit you won't get paid much anyway.

Right - And you're still quite often dominated anyway. Some players are still treating baby and mid PP's the way they did 3+ years ago and that just doesn't fly anymore. 22-55 is terribly unprofitable UTG but you couldn't find a 6 max chart that didn't include those in UTG's OR.

Conversely, calling 22-55 from the BTN is an outdated strategy, IMO. Raising PP's after previous callers from the BTN is the correct play in today's micros.
