My Answers:

1)The call down was the right move. But you should check/raise on the flop and then bet the turn. Preflop your opponent showed more aggression (he reraised you, but you didnt cap), so he has the initiative now. Your chance to steal him the initiative and then maybe the pot is to check/raise the flop and to bet the turn after that. If you check/raise at the flop bet turn and your opponent raises you after that action, his raise is a symbol for much more strengh and you can fold to a riverbet if you dont improve with the rivercard.

2)Thats right. If there are cards on the board, higher than your pocket pair, you should play on every street bet/fold. If you get any action from your opponent you can get out.

You must be very active on the flop if you get a set. The flop is a cheap street, where you get much callers. If you can build a big pot on the flop, you have 2 advantages from that. First a big part of that money is obviously yours and second the pot will be so big, that more opponents will not fold on the turn, who would fold, if the pot wouldnt be that big.
So your chances to have the biggest pot on the showdown is to be active on the flop, get there as much money in as possible and than hold the opponents who feel pot to be pot committed.

To get the biggest pot you can is your only aim, if you flop a set. Thats why I think your check/raise on the turn was the worst move in that hand. First a check/raise is a move, who symbolizes much strengh. Such presentation of strengh scares many opponents out of the pot. But you want to hold them in the pot not somewhere outside the range of your fishing rod.
And the raise first behind the bettor is a protection move. This check/raise had teh biggest chances possible in the whole hand to bring everybody to fold their hands.

Ok, this wasnt what I expected, but I am sure you are right with what you say. I gotta rethink the moves and improve it.
