Hello all, newbies here. Hope I can learn something from the replies and improve.

Anyway, I wanna discuss 2 hands where I had JJ pre-flop.

Hand #1:

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite. View Hand #37802138

MP3: $4.86 (243 bb)
Hero (CO): $2.33 (116.5 bb)
BTN: $2.24 (112 bb)
SB: $1.56 (78 bb)
BB: $2.17 (108.5 bb)
UTG+1: $2.12 (106 bb)
UTG+2: $1.96 (98 bb)
MP1: $1.51 (75.5 bb)
MP2: $2 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with J♥ J♦
MP2 posts BB OOP, 2 folds, MP1 raises to $0.09, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.09, BTN raises to $0.30, 2 folds, MP1 calls $0.21, Hero calls $0.21

Flop: ($0.95) 5♥ 7♥ 9♠ (3 players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks, BTN bets $0.61, 2 folds

Spoiler

Results: $0.95 pot ($0.03 rake)
Final Board: 5♥ 7♥ 9♠
Hero mucked J♥ J♦ and lost (-$0.30 net)
BTN mucked and won $0.92 ($0.62 net)
MP1 mucked and lost (-$0.30 net)

The question is should I have re-raised pre-flop and folded after the re-raise from villain? I think folding pre-flop is just too nitty here?

And was that a good fold? I think v's range should include all of the higher pairs + AK maybe?

Hand #2:

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite. View Hand #37802139

MP2: $4.86 (243 bb)
Hero (MP3): $2.03 (101.5 bb)
CO: $2.86 (143 bb)
BTN: $1.55 (77.5 bb)
SB: $2.15 (107.5 bb)
BB: $2.12 (106 bb)
UTG+1: $1.96 (98 bb)
UTG+2: $1.21 (60.5 bb)
MP1: $1.98 (99 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with J♠ J♦
4 folds, Hero raises to $0.06, 3 folds, BB calls $0.04

Flop: ($0.13) Q♣ 9♠ 6♣ (2 players)
BB bets $0.06, Hero calls $0.06

Turn: ($0.25) 7♣ (2 players)
BB bets $0.10, Hero calls $0.10

River: ($0.45) T♦ (2 players)
BB bets $0.12, Hero folds

Spoiler

Results: $0.45 pot ($0.02 rake)
Final Board: Q♣ 9♠ 6♣ 7♣ T♦
Hero mucked J♠ J♦ and lost (-$0.22 net)
BB mucked and won $0.43 ($0.21 net)

Question is: should I have called the river? I think I was beat. V's range should include Q, but I don't think v had flush.

Hey bop19,

Welcome to PokerStrategy :welcome:

Hand 1:

I think pre you played ok.
OTF you could actually lead with a bet. You are multiway and holding an overpair. You don't want to give free cards and leading has also nice fold equity.
If you check, I think you have to call. Folding an overpair vs single bet is just too weak. Especially when you have backdoor draws. You have to remember that villain will also squeeze as a bluff. If he would do this only with QQ+, there would be little reason to call pre.

Hand 2:
This one is tough.. You have to win this only 17% of the time. This is NL2 and villain can do some funny stuff like 3barrel small with 88 for example?
Without making any deep analysis, I would say that both call and fold are ok.

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks for the really helpful reply. Definitely didn't think about opening OTF. I tend to be passive after facing aggressive squeeze bets from someone, just assuming that they have a better hand. I guess, I can start mixing it up a little bit.

On Hand#2, could I re-raise OTF or is that a bad line?
