AK Is There Ever A Good Time To Fold A Straight?

One of my first hands of the night. Im playing vs a tight player I have seen now for 155 hands (16/9). This ends up being a very tough hand as you will see. Is there ever a good time to fold a straight, and is this the time?

Thanks

As soon as the flop it's awful lol.
Not the cbet of the year, and when you get raised easy fold. I won't even talk about turn and river ;)

Flop is indeed an easy fold with 3 clean outs for a straight and it’s not too likely top pair isn’t good ether if you hit this. The turn is a tricky card, because this could make our hand the 2nd best hand and he can easily raise the flop with a flush draw. I think it would be tough to fold now, but I wouldn’t lead the river and most likely try to get a cheap showdown and give up if he shoves.

Cheers,

Flop could be checked and vs that raise it could be folded.
I don't get the donk OTR. Villain might have a flush so I would want to see as cheap showdown as possible.

He have the nut flush probably. Call on the flop and easy fold on the turn. A♦:6♦: , something, like this. Very often...

Thanks! This one is interesting. Your right I definitely should have folded the flop. Betting OOP was bad in this spot.

One thing I should have considered to is he is a tight player. My study focus today is going to be how to play vs and exploit different player types now that I do have a hud.

When I first saw this I also thought it would be best to fold the flop, especially at these limits. I think once you get to the turn, very compelling argument to fold: you've seen two signs of aggression from a player who is very tight. The board is straightier and the flush draw has just got there. Sure you got there as well but you may have the second best hand, and you have to expect facing a third barrel on the river. I think folding there would have been good but of course in the moment it can be hard and I totally see how this was a tricky spot to be in! Thanks for posting this hand I hope this was helpful somewhat. I think always matching the actions of a player, with the board and their type or tendencies is a helpful way to put the puzzle pieces of a hand together.

Hmmm even though villain raised OTF and if he happened to do that as a bluff and he might got there OTT, I still don't think our nut straight can be ever folded vs that bet. And if we want to defend correctly I think we have to call most of the rivers too. So only thing I wouldn't do is donk the river with potentially second best hand.

It doesn't make sense to talk about "defending correctly river" on a hand we played bad on the flop la55i.
Are you really hoping the guy has 89 ? Anyway defending our own flushes should be fair enough. Don't worry about the defense of our "real" bet/calling range flop, moreover on a spot where we know villain underbluffs.

Fair point.
So do you think it would be better to check fold the river if he bets half pot for example? I think he can sometimes have 89, could be a split against another AK and if he is mad he can barrel 2pair or set?

I know those hands are not that likely so maybe fold is just fine in that situation. But if hero had A♦: or K♦: we might consider bluffcatching?

Meh. I'm not the big fold guy (far from it) but here I don't see him betting 89 or worse. DP and sets are taking a free card turn so often or they don't dare to pull the trigger for the last barrel.
Spliting with AK is rather pointless as it would have been a pecularly strange way for him to play it al the way lol. K9 would already makes more sens but we block it etc.

All in all, that's the kind of spot where they simply always seem to have the flush at micros. (Reg)fishes tend to get so flush oriented (chasing it and fearing absurdly when they don't have it).
Then again it can depends on which room/field you are playing, as it is quite meta-dependant.
