I was playing a £100 buy-in at a casino I was unfamiliar with. I play a lot of pub games live where correct etiquette is followed liberally at best and I usually only manage to make a casino game 5 or 6 times a year and so I am often left unsure about the correct etiquette.
I was heads up in a hand and I was leading out to hit my nut flush draw. When I missed on the river the player who was calling my bets said 'why can I never hit a flush?' I looked at him strangely, I checked, he bet small and I called. He had top pair on the flop. When I mucked my hand he said 'I knew he had a flush draw so I called to make sure he didn't hit it.' I said nothing.
I started to wonder, though, if he was breaking any rules by talking about his hand in this way. He lied about his hand in order to induce me to call (which being the idiot I am, I did) but it seemed shady.
Is a player actually allowed to do this? If not then what is the correct protocol for making a complaint and what should the punishment be? Should the cards just be turned over then and there?
Any information about what is okay and isn't to talk about while in a hand would be useful for me in case something like this happens again.
