You could have fired a barrel on the river with a very high fold equlity. The SB smells like QK / QJ / Q-rag and that ace is a good scare card / bluff card for you.

River: I like to check behind also because sometimes they will call you anyways with his Qx.

If you think villain could fold there Qx or lower pp then turn your hand into bluff and bet 2,5$.
If you think that he is mostly c/c with any hand, then just check behind, you mighjt be sometimes good here, but I believe that villain has a lot of times better hand.
