partypoker - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has J♥ J♣

fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, BTN raises to 8.5 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 6 BB

Flop: (18.5 BB, 2 players) A♦ 3♣ 2♠
Hero checks, BTN bets 7.5 BB, Hero calls 7.5 BB

Turn: (33.5 BB, 2 players) 9♣
Hero checks, BTN checks

River: (33.5 BB, 2 players) 5♦
Hero checks, BTN checks

Should I have given up on flop with that overcard? Whats the best line in such a standard situation down here at nl2? Guess my open was too low already?
One call reasonable? Check too weak on river?

It's a PartyPoker Regular table, so no reliable stats there.

Any input appreciated.

I think it's fine as played.
His 3bet hits the ace OTF, but your hand is too strong to fold to a cbet on that flop. The call is correct.
OOP is difficult to do something more OTT and OTR. I'd play the same way.

The open size from CO is just fine. You could consider 4betting but I don't think just calling is bad. With just 1 overcard there I would definitely call one bet so call OTF is totally fine. Villain should have many other than Kx hands in his range too and in 3bet pots people like to cbet a lot.
OTR I think check call would be just fine. If you bet, I doubt there are many weaker hands that will call. Since he checked OTT it makes his hand look a bit weak. I think the best option would be to check and then call because he could throw another stab because you just keep on checking.

Imo this hand is quite standard.

I think the first part is false. At least if villain is not very nitty. This is BTN vs CO so I would expect his 3betting range to be quite wide. And his 3bet always would hit that ace OTF, then those two statements are in conflict. If we know for sure that villain has an A, then we should absolutely fold. We have a 2 outer.

You're right. A UTG 3bet would be completely different. From the BTN I have to agree with you. The wrong word is "always" :f_thumbsup:

So river bluff catch, and no donk due to no value + not much of FE. Else all good.

I think l3mon said that you can open higher at micros with value hands, but do not quote me on that.

Wonder if I should stick to 2.5bb beginning with cut off and 3bb on UTG and Mid, no matter the strength of the hand.

That is true. People will not notice that you opened bigger so you can definitely do that with premium hands. You could have opened half a big blind bigger but I wouldn't say opening to 2.5bb is a mistake.

I would bet the river for value here. Most of aces bets Turn as well, so most likely you are ahead at this spot. I would probobly bet 1/3 to 1/2 pot on river. If he raises I would fold , but by this bet I think we extract some value from weaker holdings we beat.

After a preflop 3bet I really would have to get him to fold KK QQ , while he could easily hold AT+ I assume? Those are all better than my jacks, what would I bet here against I wanted to get called from (Value bet)? Pocket 9s and Ts of villain? If so, this seems no good deal to me.

Edit: Even if he 3bet KJ and KQ I got the odds against me for a value bet on river I guess.
