Leading flop

I would only consider to lead in to the raiser if the pot is multi way and you have a value hand that you want to protect against draws or something.

This is pretty much what I do also. It is called a "donk" bet because it is quite unorthodox move that usually isn't very good. There are some places where donks could be fine but I haven't incorporated those to my game that much.

Donk betting in HU pots is something I personally dont do much. But main reason for that is simply because lot of player pool are more likely to be cbetting too much than too little. Donk betting can make sense in situations where flop favors caller range lot more than preflop aggressor. Even if not counting some exploitative donk bets. E.g. lets say we are in 9 handed table where UTG opens range of 77+, AJo+, Axs. KQo, KTs+, QJs, JTs and maybe few smaller suited connectors. BB calls very wide range defending his blind. Flop comes 456. Now if BB defend decently wide he can have any set, any two pair at least with suited hand, some straights, pair+draw etc. While top of UTG range will be mostly overpairs. Now what this means is that even top of UTG range can be put into tough spot if he cbets because he cannot have lot of holdings that BB player can.

In that sort of situation UTG should mainly check and possibly not have any cbet range because of above disadvantage. Now if we are in BB shoes and we know that this is flop that UTG wont cbet or rarely will anyway donk betting will become very reasonable option.

If on other hand flop comes AKT where UTG can have any set, some of straight, most two pairs and strong top pairs while we would sometimes probably 3bet some of those hands it becomes pretty obvious that donk betting seems pretty bad idea for many reasons.
