My story
I did an experiment a while ago, I based my method off some stuff in "Think and Grow Rich." The book is so good and well-researched, I was surprised to see psychic stuff in there, but thought I'd give it a go.

Part of the reason was that I'm curious to see why so many people claim to be psychic, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Relevant XKCD:

The experiment
First, I got a pack of cards and guessed the card, then flipped it to see if I was right, and counted the ones I got right.

This proved frustratingly difficult, so I switched to guessing the colour of the card, and counted the ones I got right.

The results
It was surprisingly interesting. I started out on an amazing run, like 28/35 then 17/22 or something. I still didn't really believe I was psychic but it felt very strange. The strangest thing was not the results, but the fact that the decisions felt easy and obvious.

I went through some bad runs too. When it felt like "I was tired" or "I just couldn't get the feel for it". The decisions felt really difficult and I was constantly second-guessing myself.

I noticed that when I couldn't decide and I got it wrong I thought "God dam it I knew it!" and when I got it right, I thought "see, yeah!"

It really felt like there was an element of skill and control there, but, in the end the % correct was converging toward 50%, so I just stopped.

I'll probably wait a few years until I start to wonder if maybe I was wrong and I am actually psychic, and try again.

About poker
I'd say from this, sometimes when we feel like we're constantly making bad decisions at the poker table it can be just a bad run. It was really interesting to see how I felt I wasn't making any mistakes (those ones where retrospectively you think I knew that was a bad call) when I was running good. But felt like I was making mistakes when I was running bad.

Try it yourself. See if you're psychic

Interesting =)

It's indeed a shame so many so called self-help books are stuffed with pseudo-scientific bullshit as if it was a rule created by someone that you should put at list one bullshit chapter in your book lol.
