Moving to the party, wanna eat me a lot of fishes

Fishes are supposed to bite, bring me up a greater height
but they're bitting far too hard
If I had my little way, I'd eat fishes everyday
but it seems they're eating meee

I hate these situations, at the turn only an overcard draw left and his donk suggests at least a made hand might be small, but too little pot odds....

7)
UTG3 was a TAG MP1 was a callingstation, Draws were running dead all evening so I got a little dishearted, stupid :).

nice poem :)

1) I'm not sure about the preflop cap, he is not that aggressive preflop, the rest is fine

2)bet the turn and take a free Showdown or fold to a checkraise.

3) fine

4) i would just call the flop, usually these types of players don't fold their ten or whatever they hit, call flop call turn and if he bets again call river or if he checks bet river, as u played it take a freecard on the turn he is not folding a better hand and with his low af it is very likely he has at least a ten

5) fine

6) is ok

7) raise flop, and in this special case i would donk the turn. a c/r is a very strong move and will force the tag to fold most of his holdings. but if you just lead out he might call and since mp1 is a callingstation he will call too (maybe :P)

8) good fold. down to two backdoordraws a not so tough laydown

I had Presidents of the USA in my head for the whole day :), and I haven't heard the song in months. But it gave something to think about while taking a leak :).

1) You're right, it isn't necessary since I'm oop anyway it won't give me more initiative. However his pfr is 15%, modified by position and halved for his 3betting I still get 55% equity in pokerstove so it doesn't look like a problem to me.

2) I hated that hand, haven't been able to steal any blinds for a week now (unless I'm UTG, great!). Basically I betted the flop and was pretty much done with the hand at that point, theres a possible flush, possible straight and several cards wel in the range of a BB caller so I assumed I was way behind and didn't want to throw anymore money in. Seeing his play in the previous hand (with an A9s) I didn't think I could get him to fold here.

4) Jup a good place to take a free card. The raise was a bit for pressure and a bit for information, in case he had a flushdraw I would assume he'd raise me on the turn, since he only called I considered my river play a thin bet for value. But the freecard move followed by a call or bet is better

7) You're completely right, guess I had a tilt going on there, played the hand pretty ugly.

8) Threw it in just to make sure I don't have any faults in even some of the most basic situations, since I'm losing quite a bit of confidence at the moment.

Hmmm, both 4 and 7 show signs of tilting and not calm reasoning, guess the stress of several days' worth of losing sessions is taking a toll, have to pay close attention to that and only play short sessions.

I was thinking about your point about hand 2. Betting for a free showdown.
Similar situation came up today, though this time I had a second pair.

Why would I want to bet for a free showdown when I'm HU IP?
If I know that I want to see the showdown cheap, why not take a freecard on the turn and call the river? It's the same cost as a bet on the turn, without the risk of a c/r (or an sudden extra donk on the river). It also allows the possibility for a completely free showdown if the opponent is passive, and allows you to fold without extra costs if a killer card hits on the river (assuming it's so obviously devastating that you wouldn't want to call that single bet you originally planned for).

first of all i want to apologize for my english, since this is going to be long, i'm sure tons of mistakes will find their way into my explanation. :)

ok let me try to explain the difference between betting the turn with free showdown and checking behind with calling a river bet. like almost everything in poker, it depends :)

there are at first some things that you have to ask yourself before deciding to bet the turn or not.

1) is it possible that a better hand could fold?

2)do i have an easy calldown or easy fold to a checkraise on the turn?

3) how aggressive is my opponent? is he capable of maing tricky aggressive moves with air? would i be faced with a tough decision?

4)would i have an easy river call if i check behind turn and villain bets?

5) is villain capable of betting the river when turn gets checked through with weaker hands?

if the answer to question 1 and 2 is yes, then bet.
if the answer to question 3, 4 and 5 is yes, then check behind.(at least two of them)

let me take your posted hand (hand 2).
in this hand you have nothing, ace high with no kicker. bet turn and give your opponent the chance to fold his pocket threes or sixes or BETTER ACE HIGH or whatever. if he checkraises you you have an easy laydown and u payed the same amount compared to checking turn and calling river, but it would be possible that a better hand folds and you win. if he calls turn, hell than check river and see what hes calling with. and you cann still bet river if an ace hits.

the second example you mentioned where you hit second pair is close, but again, it depends.

to sum it up, if villain is tricky or/and aggressive, check behind turn and call a river bet is a good line with marginal holdings that still have a showdown value, like midpair good kicker. versus an aggressive player you also open the doors for a river bluffbet when you check behind on turn so you get an extra bet from a hand that maybe would have foldet to a turn bet and you keep yourself out of tough spots where you dont know if your hand is good enough to show it down.

so my default line: villain passive: bet turn, fold crap to checkraise
villain tricky/aggressive: bet turn with good holdings, call down to a checkraise, bet turn with "nothing holdings", fold to a checkraise, check behind with marginal/medium hands and call a river bet.

of course there are always some cards that you dont want to see at the river but most of the times you can call that river bet versus an aggro villain if you checked behind on the turn.

i hope i could show my point and i am of course open to further questions, feel free to ask.

oh and to hand one: it's not that easy, he is 3-Betting an UTG-Raise from MIDDLE Position, so i would assume his 3-betting range is about maybe 4%-5% in this spots, and if his range is 5% or less, your equity is under 50%, plus the disadvantage of being oop. but i think it's close between calling and capping here.

Thanks for the elaborate responds emrah :). Clear and good food for thought, I'm going to save it :).

And don't worry about your english, there are a few strange wordings to be found, but then I'm no native either so... :).

You're right about hand 1, I should be a tad more carefull about that.
In this particular situation however I think it was justified, his stats nor his play on the hands I saw of him suggested are very solid player, don't think he took my position in consideration (playing back the hand later confirmed this).
