This guy today was trying to tell me that if u play online poker in usa u are committing a crime similar to watching child pornography! So hes saying its banned

While it is illegal, I wouldn't compare it to child porn whatsoever. More along the line of jay walking.
Its one of those stupid laws that is impossible to enforce. Mostly, it is set up to prevent American citizens from playing in off shore gaming sites, by making tender transactions nearly impossible to make.
Just remember, if it WERE that illegal, none of the American pros would be playing online.
Besides, it won't be long before the new administration straightens out that mess. Give it another month or two tops.
it's not illegal to play on Stars or FTP, it's just one of the Bush administration's bullshits...
