How would you play 88 here? Would you flat? If we do, we're gonna end up folding to a c-bet on most flops.

PokerStars - 25/50 Ante 6 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP+1: 27.14 BB (VPIP: 18.84, PFR: 17.31, 3Bet Preflop: 6.68, Hands: 1,390)

SB: 21.76 BB (VPIP: 4.26, PFR: 4.55, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 47)
BB: 29.18 BB (VPIP: 21.98, PFR: 12.79, 3Bet Preflop: 6.67, Hands: 91)
UTG: 32.74 BB (VPIP: 15.63, PFR: 8.06, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 65)

MP: 52.8 BB (VPIP: 13.51, PFR: 9.86, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 74)

8 players post ante of 0.12 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.46 BB) Hero has 8♥ 8♠

fold, fold, fold, MP+1 raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, fold, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (7.46 BB, 2 players) 9♥ T♣ Q♦

Because this is a KO, BTN, who is covering both the opener and us, will flat wider and squeeze all-in wider than in a non-KO. Despite the low PFR, BTN's 3bet isn't that low. The 27 bb effective stack is too shallow for setmining to be profitable facing a 3 bb open. So flatting is out of question for me, and it's a shove-or-fold decision.

88 is the bottom of my 3bet-shoving range (88+, ATs+, AQo+, suited broadways) in this stack distribution in a KO (calculators may disagree). I'd fold it if I weren't covering the midstacked opener whose stack is 90% of the starting one and who's not a rock.

Calling is ok imo as 88 can be played outside of set mining as well but its close. 3bet shoving with antes versus 3bb open should be fine.

I find a 3 bb open less indicative of a nutty range in a KO than a non-KO because the loose dynamics of KOs make it necessary to generally size opens bigger (is 3 bb that reg's default sizing from the hijack?), which generally reduces the SPRs. After that open, the pot became 5.46 bb (as opposed to 4.96 if the open had been 2.5x), so the risk-reward ratio is a bit better, plus, there's a slight overlay from the opener's bounty in case we're called.

The bounties are small, so I make sure not to go too crazy, but the ranges do widen up a bit.

Is 88 the bottom of your calling range with PP?

Not really but of course covering villain does make it bit better. Versus smaller raise I would not consider shoving as calling would be cheaper and risk:reward worse. There really is no clear answer to this spot imo. All options have merit. But active villain can open like 20-25% so shove becomes marginal option if this is the case.

Yeah pretty much. Cannot call as pure set mine so you need some playability with it.
