1) 3bet the Flop. Most of the time you have the best hand here. Put some pressure on your opponent. A lot of players will raise here with hands which contain an ace of or with hands like KJ, QJ...
And then like you said bet the turn so he can't take a freecard.

2) Sure, against unknown i like the calldown. And i also like the bet on the turn.

His 3bet could mean 2 different things, as long as we put him on the ORC ranges.:

a) a pocket pair
or
b) an Ace with a good kicker

he would propably bet his Ace again on the River. And c/c his pocket pairs. So i am a bit surpised he check folds on the river. So could be he was holding a hand like K♠Q♠.

I definitely didnt want to give a freecard on the turn. I often saw the standard play: raise Flop, cb turn. This often happened when I played call flop raise turn with a strong hand against a lone opponent. (I had to change my tactic a bit)

So, this seemed to be a standard play. Otherwise he would hold a much better hand than me. Then, with a 3-Bet on the flop, he would have capped. If I then bet on the turn, I get a raise and the hand gets too expensive for me.

Therefor I decided to call the raise and bet on the turn.

1. If he holds a FD, he doesnt get a freecard
2. If he holds a much better hand than me, it doesnt get too expensive for me.

I am pretty sure, he would have capped the flop even if he holds a FD, cause this is a scary board, his foldequity will be much higher than on other boards.

This way, I nearly always have to pay 2BB on the flop and at least 2BB on the turn.

Is my assumption wrong?

Ok here we go:

only looking at flop and turn:

Condition1) We are behind against a set or a made Flush1

Your Line: Flop 1BB - Turn 2BB because most of the time he will raise here with a better hand. - So we will loose 3BB with your line!

My Line: 2BB Flop - 2BB Turn - We will losse 4BB when we cap the flop and bet the turn.

Condition2) We are ahaid on the flop!

Your Line: 2BB

My Line: 3-4BB depends on how often he raises the turn.

To make calculations easier lets say he won't raise us on the turn when we are ahead.

So and i think that we are more often ahead in this situation then we are behind.

Just a little calculation:
Lets assume Condition1 occurs 40% of the time and COndition2 60%
So 6 out of 10 times we are ahead.

My Line: Ahead: +18 BB (6*3) Behind: -16BB (4*4) = Total of +2BB EV

Your Line: Ahead: +12BB (6*2) Behind: -12BB (3*4) = Total of +/- 0 BB EV

And in general we are more then 60% of the time ahead on the flop.

And so i think i really want to make the hand expensive for him. Your line is only better when we are behind more then 50% of the time.

i hope i didn't make some calculation mistakes.
