Intro

Thx for taking the time to view my thread. I found this website as I was looking for a poker community to join since 2p2 was nonexistent in terms of STT Strategy.

In short, my history of poker dates back to 2007 where most of my volume consisted of cash games. Went from NL10 to NL50 then lost majority of my roll due to tilting issues and bad play. I played off and on until 2012 which i dedication my time to my job searching and love of fitness (was close to my first competition but had to withdraw due to police academy). Fast forward to 2019 one of my coworkers invited me to a live game where I booked a big win and deposited that money to online for a final go around.

My goal is simple: Make $250 a month for majority of the months in a single year. I’m thinking this may be doable for the entire next year if I move up the limits for the rest of this year and bust my behind. I will need to put in decent volume and study time.

Realistic playing time

Due to my full time job I can only play part time and my goal is to play 40-60 hours every month. I currently play 8 tables comfortably, being able to take notes on opponents and recall all hand histories in my head that I am involved in. I want to eventually graduate to 10-12 tabling with all those same factors in mind once I am more comfortable and confident in my abilities. Right now late stages of the sit and goes I have to think too much about restealing ranges, shoving ranges, my own calling ranges against shoving and resteals to add tables in for the sake of hitting x number of tables. I’m trusting the process and plan to put in the work.

Studying
Haven't played much at all in the past 2 weeks. Been busy with working and hitting the gym and prepping my meals for work. Gym and nutrition comes before poker just my priorities, not to mention in my field of work I gotta keep in good shape so I don't get knocked out lol.
In any case, since I haven't been able to play I took some of my free time and studied up on some shoving/ shove-calling ranges and it has helped a ton. I made a guide for myself to help me in-game. It's just so many numbers and ranges to remember, I don't know how some regulars know this shiet so well.

Shots
The end of last month My BR was around $580 at the start of this thread and took a shot once my BR hit $625 and went on a nice bender all the way up to $705 playing $10 limits but then hit a bad downer and went back down to $575 ending the month. I plan to try it again once BR hits $600-$620 again.

hands
Not much to report, majority of standard hands. Misplayed (mayb) one hand on the bubble with 4 left EP minraises 18bbs matching my stack in BB everyone else with 5-7bbs and I jammed with JTss. My reasoning at the time was b/c this villain is a reg and I know he knows he can only call with something like QQ+ or close to that. Thought it was a decent hand to do it with. Maybe not when he tanked called with KK lol.

Well if he was close of folding must have been +EV move. From BB you should play by flatting that hand. Cheap to call and plays well postflop. If you want to shove then hands like Axs are nice in such spot as villain should not be inducing many if any Ax and Axs will have nice equity versus pocket pairs.

This month has been really shitty. Lack of volume and things keep coming up that I need to get done. Next week I should be able to put in 2 full days of grinding, should be able to tack on another 80+ games. Today I played pretty well just ran poorly.

Notes
Downswong continues. Last few months ran pretty hot so it is expected. My mental game is onpoint, beats arent getting to me, move on to the next hand no problem so I'm cool with it. Few questionable hands but majority of hands in key spots Im happy with the way I've been playing.

Hands
This one particular hand had me questioning my calling range on the bubble. I put it in the solver and it seems extremely off...

@200-400-50 blinds
UTG (8,978)
BTN (2,474)- Villain.
SB (4,022)
BB (2,326) - Hero.

utg folds, btn jams 2474, sb folds, Hero K♥3♦?

Solver using ICM has BTN shoving 29.7% and Hero should be calling against that range 15%.. To be this seems extremely nitty and maybe its the program using ICM but I am last place, I need a double and we both have around 5 bigs. I'm thinking BTN is probably shoving 55% here if I had to take a stab. Regardless its a fold but trying to study ranges and trying to understand this solver.

Notes
Played a few sessions this week, things are getting slightly better. Slowly climbing back. At first I was using this solver to plug some of my leaks such as not shoving wide enough or not calling wide enough in big blind/ getting exploited. However, I feel now I am taking unnecessary risks just b/c I know it might be slightly +ev spot to call in. I'll start giving some examples and see what you guys think, appreciate the feedback.

Notes
Been studying a ton and that knocked down a bit of volume. Goal for this month was to play 300 games and even though all my goals got cut short I still feel through my studies I have improved a ton despite the red results. I have plugged some leaks and continuing to do so. I could care less about results, I care moreso about the quality of my decisions. I moved down from 8 tabling down to 7 max until I know the shoving and calling ranges in the back of my mind. In some spots I know exactly what I should be calling with or shoving with i.e. 26% shoving 10bbs middle position but some hands I just have to think if its within that 26% or if its a borderline shove or adjust to the players and widen that range to 35% or lower it down to 20%.. all depends obviously. However, I am thinking a TON more which is def a good thing and even though I am running a tad bit under EV in my opinion I am still putting in the work.

Big upswing today won approximately 18 BI's @5.00 limit. Crossed over to the $600 mark again which feels nice so I can jump back into taking shots at $10.00 limit. I've noticed even after my first big winning session today the first thing I did after my session was study a few spots that I was unsure about. This is HUGE for me coming from someone who never used to study. Even though results have been pretty meh I do feel like my game is getting much stronger in push/fold spots. Next I need to work on some resteal spots.

I'm not playing cash, I'm playing 9-man sit and go's. Why do you think its aggro and where do those numbers come from- 510 & 570?

Recreational player, I only play around 30-40 hours per month. I play the $5.00 9man turbo sit and go’s. For that limit I have roughly 750 games played @9.5% roi. My yearly goal was to take shots at $25.00 limit but that doesn’t seem realistic. I don’t put enough volume in to move up that quick.

9 man turbos shouldn’t be that much variance. I would be surprised if I ever hit 50 bi downswing.

Nice. I used to grind them like 5 years ago religiously but just felt bored after about 1-1500 games of em.

Binked one of the 10s I played in my short session today. Played my first half of the short session very well then I got super tired and played weaker the second half. Still a good turnout but def felt pretty meh. I got tomorrow off so ill put in some volume. Great start to this month. Lets go.
