Hi guys,
my name is David, I’m 27 years old and I used to be a professional poker player from 2011 to 2014. I started off in 2011 with 180’s SNGs, quickly moved up the stakes and played HS tournaments from 2012 to 2014 with an ABI of ±80$ in my last year. In total, I played approx. 20k SNGs and 20k MTTs and I had 12 or 13 five-figure-cashes.
Since then, I’ve completely quit poker. My heart wasn’t in it anymore, and I decided to study instead and build a life outside of poker. I’m about to finish university and I’ll start working in a few months. As I have a ton of time due to corona-boredom, I thought it would be nice to play a bit again. I don’t want to start grinding each day, but maybe play a few MTTs once or twice a week.
The thing is: I don’t want to jump back into poker completely unprepared. I have no idea how the game has evolved in the past five years and my poker skills have deteriorated probably by a lot. That’s why I’m consulting you guys. It would be amazing if you could help me in getting off the ground again. Here are my questions:
What do you think are the biggest changes in online MTTs since 2014?
Have the games become a lot tougher?
Which skills are needed now that weren’t needed back then to succeed?
Which tools do most MTT pros use for their setup and to work on their game? Holdem Manager/Poker Tracker, PioSolver, anything else?
Are there any great MTT video courses out there for players in my situation?
Which website has the best MTT content and community to start learning again? RIO? RYE?
Any other tips to get up to date as fast as possible?
Finally, is anyone maybe in a similar situation and feels like chatting about poker?
