As played you can't fold river.

I think villain doesn't 3bet light against UTG raises very often. And against premium hands especially pairs, I thought I would have enough implied odds to call for set value.

Pre-flop the stacks were ~25x the amount that I had to call.

OTF I am unsure of the correct raise size. I raised a little less than pot size. I haven't studied anything that covers this, yet. However, I haven't finished working through all the NL articles yet. Is it covered there?

the main thing you should concern yourself with your sizings here is the stack-to-pot ratio (SPR), in order to avoid such a situation on the river. thus, flop can go either smaller and play 3 streets, or bigger and play 2 streets (shove turn).

river is interesting, check/call beats AK type hands, while shoving yourself beats QQ+ type hands. of course, you aren't truly happy with either line, but that's what a weird river SPR does to you.

I think the situation OTR is called negative freeroll.

Because I have to call an all-in anyway, it is better to go all-in myself because that way villain might call with a weaker hand that he otherwise would check behind.
