The fancy play syndrome on the flop by checking presumably to induce a bluff, or playing scared, gave the initiative to the villain, who most likely bluffed repping not a full house but trip Jacks. 100% a call. He may have filled up, but because you showed weakness the odds are he bluffed you off the pot.

Don't get cute when you hit tptk on the flop. Bet and if you get re-raised then decide whether to call, raise or fold. Depending on the player type making the 3/bet.

hero is clearly scared to death. easy bet on the flop with a few weaker players in the pot.

the tight btn is the only player against which we have to be careful with giving action, and unfortunately he happens to be the only guy to continue in this case. however, top trips is a bit too strong to fold, villain can still be valuebetting worse trips (as well as bluffing at a low frequency) - his preflop calling range isn't pocket pairs only, especially on btn and being multiway.

but there is a good chance that he is value betting a QQ/KK for example and the second Jack gave him even more assurance (along with our non cbetting or check-raising) that his equity is really high and wants to get value and/or charge for draws.

If the turn card was a K or Q for example there is some merit into reluctantly folding, but with the Jack we need to be able to stack off here.

This is something I really need to come in peace with. Problem being I can almost never differenciate between a cooler setup and a bad play.
How do you differenciate that in general?

at least for me it's a "salami" approach. (just saying it because it usually sticks )

When* i see the hand (* not on the heat of the moment) :

Slice 01 : Is it one of my typical blunders ?
Slice 02 : Would he do that with a lot of hands but i just happened to hit the top of his range?
and play with Equilab on this.
Slice 03 : now that you know, do you feel comfortable doing it again?

example : I called down a big big pot but did it against a villain who I had seen doing this 3 times with pure trash. I managed to call when he had AA.
Slice 01 : No
Slice 02 : Oh Yes
Slice 03 : Hell yes against HIM!

When you get better the Slices get more and more sophisticated.
