I keep going into pot control mode when theres a gutshot straight on board...I should keep betting right?

How do I play river if I bet turn and he calls?

You must bet turn since without betting you do not have any information. This is not about pot control. If you are raised and called, you are many times behind so you usually fold on the river (so there is not need to control the pot).

If you bet and you are called on the turn, then it is easy c/f. You are beaten by everthing and he would not bet anything worse.
